August 12, 2022 National Charolais Youth Stockjudging Finals 2022

Whilst last year’s virtual Youth Stockjudging competition was a success, members young and old alike were keen to return to a more traditional in-person format. By kind permission from Major David Walter & family, Balthayock Farms welcomed 50 promising young people to take part in the National Charolais Youth Stockjudging Finals on 24th July 2022.

As with previous competitions, entry was open to young people from ages 8-26, being split into Junior (age 8-14), Intermediate (age 15-18), and Senior (age 19-26) classes. The top ten entrants from the Intermediate and Senior classes were then invited to explain their reasoning to master judge Iain Millar of the Lochend herd, whilst all Junior entrants had to fill out an assessment card on one animal.
