Summer Paradise at the Royal Welsh Show

Judge: John Christie

After a 2-year hiatus, the Royal Welsh Show finally returned in full swing over the course of Monday 18th to Thursday 21st July. The scorching weather did not dissuade the exhibitors, who came prepared with plenty of fans and water to keep the cattle cool. A total of 15 Charolais animals went before the judge, John Christie of the Nethercarse herd in Stirling, in an excellent display of some truly impressive beasts.

Dooley Paradise, exhibited by C Boden – Overall Champion, Female Champion

Taking the sought-after title of Overall Champion was the day’s Female Champion DOOLEY PARADISE, exhibited by C Boden of Middlewich, Cheshire. Paradise was originally bred by D Thornley of Diseworth, Leicestershire, and comes from quite the successful lineage. Paradise was sired by the 70,000gns Barnsford Ferny, who won Supreme Champion at the Royal Welsh Show back in 2013. Her dam Harviestoun Harriet also boasts some prize-winning blood, being a daughter of former Carlisle Supreme Champion Burradon Talisman.

Teme Poshtotty, exhibited by S M Corbett & Daughters – Reserve Overall Champion, Reserve Female Champion

In reserve to Paradise for both the Overall and Female Championships was TEME POSHTOTTY, bred and exhibited by the Corbett family of Knighton, Powys. This 2-year-old caught many an eye with her charming 3-month-old heifer calf Teme Tuttifrutti at foot. Poshtotty is a half-sister to Paradise, having also been sired by the 70,000gns Barnsford Ferny. Meanwhile her dam, Teme Ivory, is a daughter of the easy-calving Blelack Digger.

Teme Snowwhite, exhibited by S M Corbett & Daughters – Junior Champion, Junior Female Champion, Junior Female Interbreed Champion
(L-R) Teme Snowwhite & Teme Stardust, exhibited by S M Corbett & Daughters – Females of the Future Beef Pairs Champions

Racking up an incredible string of titles for the Corbett family was 18-month-old heifer TEME SNOWWHITE. Snowwhite not only secured the titles of Junior Champion and Junior Female Champion; she also went on to win the Junior Female Interbreed Championship and formed one half of the Females of the Future Beef Pairs Champions alongside her half-sister TEME STARDUST. Both of these heifers were sired by Barnsford Ferny, with Snowwhite being out of Teme Opaque (a Goldstar Gentleman daughter) and Stardust being out of Teme Magnolia (a Shraden Osram daughter).

Teme Selfie, exhibited by S M Corbett & Daughters – Reserve Junior Female Champion

Standing in reserve to Snowwhite for the title of Junior Female Champion was TEME SELFIE, also bred & exhibited by the Corbett family. This beautiful young 15-month-old was sired by former Stirling Reserve Champion Chunal Dougie, and her dam Teme Nude goes back to Teme Lunar, who was the Reserve Male Champion in 2015’s Winter Fair.

Teme Sam, exhibited by S M Corbett & Daughters – Reserve Junior Champion, Male Champion, Junior Male Champion

Finishing off the string of rosettes won by the Corbett family was 13-month-old TEME SAM, the day’s Reserve Junior Champion, Male Champion, and Junior Male Champion. Sam is a full brother to Females of the Future Champion Teme Stardust, also being sired by Barnsford Ferny and out of Teme Magnolia.

Trefaldwyn Slade, exhibited by R A Owen – Reserve Male Champion, Reserve Junior Champion

Finally, in reserve to Sam for the Male and Junior Male Championships was 14-month-old TREFALDWYN SLADE, bred and exhibited by R A Owen of Welshpool, Powys.
