STARS OF THE FUTURE CONFIRM CHAROLAIS BREED IS UNIQUE
On Saturday 11 November 2023, ten breeds consisting of more than 400 calves competed in the annual Stars of the Future showcase of pedigree livestock. The continental inter-breed contest was judged by Teresa Wilson, who selected AJR Farms’ Charolais bull, Newlogie Unique, as best junior continental. Unique was a son of the past Royal Highland Show champion, Maerdy Morwr, out of Newlogie Papillon, a daughter of the French sire Noble. The Charolais breed was also recognised in the senior inter-breed sections with the reserve senior title being awarded to Andrew Hornall’s Falleninch Tiziana, a Charolais heifer by the French import, Falleninch Memo, and out of a past winner at Stars of the Future, Falleninch Lottie.
Andrew Hornall also won the coveted Joe Watson Memorial award for the best pair of animals owned by the same exhibitor, with his two Charolais heifers, Falleninch Tiziana and Falleninch Tenetia. In the continental pairs’ championship, they had stood ahead of another Charolais duo, the two young bulls, Elgin Tucker, and Elgin Teuchter, from the Milnes.
Earlier in the day W. Owen, Gwynedd had been tasked with judging the Charolais classes where he awarded the senior championship to Falleninch Tiziana from Andrew Hornall whilst the reserve senior title was presented to J. and S. Middleton, for Hollywell T20, for a Nuthampstead Judas son out of Hollywell Italy. The junior supreme was awarded to Newlogie Unique from A J R Farms, and Miss M T Hanson collected the reserve junior title with Silvermere Unique, a Clyth Diplomat sired January-2023 heifer calf.
