March 2, 2012 Dungannon Charolais bulls to 7,200gns

Charolais met a strong trade selling to a top of 7,200gns with an average of £3,744 for 25 bulls sold at the Northern Ireland Charolais Club’s official March show and sale at Dungannon on Friday 2 March.

Leading the trade was Coolnaslee Fireball from Gilbert Crawford, Maghera, County Derry. By Nynas Viril AV and out of a homebred cow, 19 month old Fireball was knocked down sold to V Magee, Dungannon, County Tyrone. The same breeder had two more lots amongst the top selling bulls including 19 month old Coolnaslee Fieldmarshall by Goldies Carnival and out of a home bred dam for a call of 5,000gns from N and A McCrea, Cookstown, County Tyrone. Next for Mr Crawford was another Carnival son, 17 month old Coolnaslee Foremost at 3,800gns. He was out of Mullagh Sylvia and was secured by P Gormley, Drumquin, County Tyrone.

A call of 6,000gns acquired the 14 month old pre-sale reserve champion, Aughafad Foreman by the 55,000gns Sportsmans Columbo and out of a home bred dam. Bred by R H Sinnamon, Dungannon, County Tyrone, he was purchased by P McKenna, Clogher, County Tyrone.

Next came Killadeas Farmer TI +45, SRI +34, at 5,400gns. Bred by S and D Bothwell, Ballinamallard, County Fermanagh, this 18 month old by Dunlon Ulick and out of a homebred dam was knocked down sold to B Bell, Middletown, County Fermanagh. The same breeders also sold 19 month old Killadeas Farrell TI +26, SRI +28, by Plexus and out of a home bred dam to B Kane, Castledawson, County Londonderry for 3,800gns.

Moorlough Franky, by Sportsmans Columbo and out of a home-bred dam sold next at 5,200gns. This 15 month old from J McBride, Strabane, County Tyrone was purchased by D Simpson, Aughnacloy, County Tyrone.

An 18 month old from J K Currie, Ballymena, County Antrim was next at 4,400gns. Tullygarley Federal TI +20, SRI +21 by the homebred Tullygarley Alibaba and out of a homebred dam was secured by B Jamison, Ballycastle, County Antrim.

Also at 4,400gns was Mullaghbane Furey from W E F Elliott, Mullaghbane, County Fermanagh. By Bridgemount Danny and out of a homebred dam, 16 month old Furey was sold to W M Cranston, Newtownhamilton, County Down.

Two lots made 4,000gns. First came Tonaghmore Fluke by Mullaghbane Topline and out of Tyberan Sheila. This 19 month old from H Crawford, Fintona, County Tyrone was secured by S and M Black, Carnlough, County Antrim.

Solitude Famous TI +44, SRI +42, a 16 month old from J and W McMordie, Newtownards, County Down was knocked down sold to I Goudy, Newtownards, County Down. Famous was by the 32,000gns Perth sale leader Solitude Attaboy and out of Givendale Unheard.

The female sale was led by the female champion and overall reserve supreme champion Aghyoule Finola ET at 4,600gns. From V Wilson, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, this 16 month old Doonally New daughter and out of Coolnaslee Berry was knocked down sold to J Smyth, Newtownstewart, County Tyrone.

Breeder of the overall sale leader, Gilbert Crawford, also found success in the female section with two year old Coolnaslee Evonne by Sandelford Bergkamp and out of Gurtavalla Orchid sold in calf for 3,400gns to C McIllwaine, Newtownstewart, County Tyrone. Three year old Glamis Doris, a daughter of Solitude Attaboy and out of Newhouse Babs, also sold as in calf, went for 3,000gns to N Cochrane, Portadown, County Armagh. Mr Crawford’s in calf two year old Coolnaslee Eliza, another Bergkamp daughter and out of a homebred dam, went for 2,400gns to S McGovern, Clogher, County Tyrone.

The Bothwell’s two year old Killadeas Edina was secured by a call of 3,000gns from P O’Kane, Cookstown, County Tyrone. This Dunlock Ulick daughter and out of a homebred dam is due to calve in May to the 16,000gns 2009 Perth champion, Blackford Dynamite. The same buyer also purchased Hollywell Fudge, a 17 month old from J and S Middleton, Upper Creavagh, County Londonderry for 2,400gns. She was a daughter of the 25,000gns Perth and Royal Highland Show champion Goldies Unbeatable and out of a homebred dam.

A bid of 2,500gns won Moorlough Fourtune for H Wilson, Ballymena, County Antrim. This 20 month old by the 55,000gns Thrunton Voldemort and out of a homebred dam came from Mr McBride.

Averages: 25 bulls, £3,744.28. 20 in calf/bulling heifers £2,370.38.
