Lockton Charolais Disperse at Carlisle
Friday 18 August sadly saw the dispersal of the Lockton Charolais herd from Pickering, North Yorkshire, at Borderway Mart. The herd was established by Robert Smith QC in the mid 1980’s with the support of his herd manager Kenneth Brown, began with the purchase of three cows and a stock bull from Billy Turner but for the past twenty years the herd has operated a closed herd policy with no on movement of cattle where high quality AI sires have been selected to produce cattle of good conformation and ease of calving.
The days highlight was the sale of the 2011 born Lockton Gemma and her October-born heifer calf Marigold, who were sold as a split pair for a total of 4,250gns. Gemma whose homebred sire Lockton Vigorous goes back to the 30,000gns Dingle Hofmeister was purchased by A Gallagher, Newtonstewart, Co Tyrone, while her Vexour Freddy sired calf Marigold was snapped up by Tomos Rich, Cilcain, Flintshire.

Her calf, the October-born Lockton Fortunate sired Marshmallow went home to Briston, Norfolk with Megan Atkins.
Following on at a combined price of 3,550gns, was a mother and daughter pair who again went on to different homes. Messrs F and IM Potter, Kendal, Cumbria were the purchasers of her 10-month-old heifer calf Lockton Missie who is sired by the renowned easy calving Blelack Digger.
