This year saw a bumper entry of 39 calves from all over Scotland for the much-anticipated Stars of the Future calf show. The committee had been eagerly waiting for this day after last year’s show was sadly cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Chairman, Robert Paterson, spoke after the event and said: “It was a show to remember with exhibitors coming from as far south as Devon and as far north as Inverness, with the standard of cattle being as good as I have ever seen.”
The task of judging the Charolais section was handed to Allen Drysdale, Middle Drimmie, who later said: “It was a great honour and privilege to be asked to judge the Stars of the Future Calf Show, there certainly was a few stars of the future in front of me to judge. The quality of the cattle I judged was tremendous, especially the calves winning the reserve and overall championships in each age section. The most pleasing thing for me was to see so many new and young exhibitors showing, this gives me a great heart that the breed is in safe hands for years to come.”
