December 2, 2021 Scottish National Fatstock Club (Livescot) 26th-27th November 2021

A new format for the Livescot committee saw them host a Pedigree Calf & Lamb Show on the Friday evening which proved to be a great success for the event. Winning the Inter-Breed Pedigree Calf Champion was BRAILES SAMSON owned by Brailes Livestock and brought out by the Rettie Team, Methven. Winning the breed section earlier that evening, Samson had also previously won the Junior Championship a few weeks prior to this at Stars of the Future. This flashy young calf is a Westcarse Houdini son out of Basset Orange.

Saturday of the show weekend brought a day to remember for the well-known couple Craig & Katreen Malone, Pitcairn, Fife.. a day they had both dreamed of since childhood, and a dream they’d always hoped they could both achieve. Finally, their dreams came true in the form of SILVER LINING, a Charolais cross steer purchased from Duncan and Judy Semple, Dippen, Argyll after standing champion at United Auctions sale at end of September. Sired by a home bred bull, Carradale Felix out of a Lim X cow, he crossed the weighbridge at 622kg. Standing first in his class in the morning under the watchful eye of judge Jimmy Woods, Popes Farm, Preston, he went on to take the Steer Championship closely followed by the prestigious Supreme Beef Cattle Champion before finally selling to Kitsons Butchers in Yorkshire for £5600. As a buyer of 450 to 500 head of prime cattle each week for his meat business, the butcher said: “This beast had presence right from the start and was shown in just the right condition to appeal to the high street butcher’s market, with just a perfect amount of cover.”
