Rosemary Blooms To Top Price At White Gold Sale
Friday 21st January 2022 marked the beginning of the 2022 sale season for Charolais animals with the Society’s first White Gold sale of high-quality females. Over the course of the day, 25 heifers (both served and maiden) found new homes, to an average price of £4779.60 and an 81% clearance rate.
The top price of the day, at an incredible 18,000gns, went to TWEEDDALE ROSEMARY, a 21-month-old from the herd of J Watson & Co of Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland. This beautiful heifer was sired by the popular 11,000gns Woodpark Elgin, and her dam is Gretnahouse Baywatch – a daughter of the sought-after French AI bull, Major. Winning the bid and taking Rosemary home was C D Timm of Pickering, North Yorkshire.
The hammer came down at the next highest price of 9,000gns twice, for a pair of sisters from Messrs Curry of Morpeth, Northumberland.
First of this pair to sell was BURRADON ROXY, a 20-month-old heifer sired by the popular Irish-born bull Clenagh Lyle. Her dam is Burradon Josie, a daughter of the easy-calving Puntabrava Federico. Roxy will be making the journey over to Northern Ireland, to the herd of winning bidders Slievemore Holding Ltd of Omagh, Co. Tyrone.
Also selling for 9,000gns was Roxy’s sister BURRADON REBECCA. Rebecca was also sired by Clenagh Lyle, and her dam is Burradon Joss, another daughter of the 10,000gns Puntabrava Federico. She will be joining her sister in the herd of new owners Slievemore Holding Ltd of Omagh, Co. Tyrone.
Two heifers reached the next highest price of 5,000gns, the first of which was 21-month-old TWEEDDALE ROYALTY. Royalty is another from the herd of J Watson & Co of Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, and was sired by the 28,000gns Maerdy Jerusalem. Her dam is Tweeddale Justso, a daughter of Blelack Blackberet. Royalty also caught the eye of Slievemore Holding Ltd, and she will be joining Roxy and Rebecca at their farm in Omagh, Co. Tyrone.
Next to reach 5,000gns was ELGIN ROBIN, a 14-month-old bred by R A Milne of Elgin, Morayshire. Robin was one of the first calves offered for sale by Harestone Oscar, an easy calving French-born bull. Robin’s dam is Elgin Isobella, a daughter of the 12,000gns Caylers Gladiator. Winning the bid this time was A Anderson of Arbroath, Angus.
The next highest price of the day was 4,500gns, and was also secured by two heifers. First to reach this price was another from Messrs Curry – BURRADON ROBERTA. Roberta is another heifer sired by Clenagh Lyle, and her dam is Burradon Jeanette, another daughter of Puntabrava Federico. Taking Roberta home is winning bidder Messrs Wright of Girvan, South Ayrshire.
Also reaching a final price of 4,500gns was the youngest heifer offered for sale: 12-month-old ELGIN SPICE. This stunning young heifer was bred by R A Milne of Elgin, Morayshire and was born to Elgin Ginger, a daughter of Esgob Deano. Spice’s sire is the notoriously easy-calving Westcarse Houdini. This young girl will be heading to Georgetown, Dumfries, to the herd of winning bidders Radley Pedigree Livestock.
Selling for the next highest price of 4,200gns was 21-month-old MORNITY RENA from Jack Nicoll Farms Ltd of Blairgowrie, Perthshire. Rena was also sired by the 14,000gns easy-calver Westcarse Houdini. Her dam is Mornity Molly, a daughter of the 15,000gns Maerdy Hwre who won multiple championships in 2014. Taking Rena home is winning bidder G E & R Harrington of Kirkandrews-on-Eden, Carlisle.
