August 9, 2023 Welsh & Borders National Show – 5th August 2023

Judge: Mr Will Short, Woodpark Charolais 

Despite an incredibly wet day, a strong display of Charolais cattle turned out to compete in the Welsh & Borders National, under the watchful eye of judge Will Short, who had made the journey from Ireland to join us. Such was the strength of the competition that winners from the breed show went on to win both the female interbreed and the pairs interbreed competitions at overall show level, which is a great reflection on the breed. 

A huge thank you to our judge Mr Short for making the trip, as well as to Oswestry show for providing a marquee for the cattle and to stewards Medwyn Williams and Nath Jones for keeping things running despite the constant rain!

Supreme champion on the day was Moelfre Nana from Kevin Thomas and family. Part of the Royal Welsh Interbeed Team of Five just ten days ago, this 6 year old Balmyle Impression daughter with her calf at foot also went on to take the show’s overall female interbreed champion.

Following in overall reserve was her RWAS Team of Five teammate, Teme Stardust from the Corbett family. The two year old Barnsford Ferny daughter then paired with stablemate Teme Totty to win the Charolais pairs competition, before going on to take the interbreed pairs ribbons.

Male champion of the day went to Moelfre Tecwyn, again from the Thomas family, going one further than the reserve junior male championship he won at the Welsh. 

Standing reserve male champion was Trefaldwyn Trilby. Bred and exhibited by Arwel Owen, this 14 month old bull is sired by Oakchurch Maximus.
