Charolais sold to a top of 8,000gns and raised the bar by setting a new centre record average of £4,746 for the May multi beef breed sale in Stirling on Monday 7 May, up £679 on last year’s record average and the highest breed average.
The pre-sale champion Dunesk General, from J and M F McMillan, Brechin, Angus, led the sale at 8,000gns. By Elgin Columbo and out of a home-bred cow, this 13 month old bull was secured by W Milne, Strathdon, Aberdeenshire.
A call of 7,000gns claimed Blelack Fondue TI +42, SRI +39, a two year old by the 15,000gns Goldies Dynamite and out of a home-bred cow for T Leslie, Shapinsay, Orkney. This one was bred by N F Massie, Aboyne, Aberdeenshire.
Westcarse Factor TI +31, SRI +25 came next at 6,500gns. This 20 month old by Kersknowe Clansman and out of a home-bred cow was bred by J H Christie, West Carse, Stirling, and went home with J Dunn and Co, Ayr, Ayrshire. The same breeder also saw 20 month old Westcarse Flashman TI +31, SRI +20, also by Clanman and out of a home-bred cow secured for a call of 6,000gns by Glenpark Farms, Balerno, Midlothian.
Four further lots made 6,000gns. Reserve champion Goldies Frontier ET TI +52, SRI +51 from H Goldie, Ruthwell, Dumfriesshire was knocked down sold to G and M Porter, Isle of Islay, Argyll. This 18 month old Dingle Hodmeister son was out of a home-bred cow.
Two lots from Major D F W H and N R Walter, Balthayock, Perth, were secured for 6,000gns. Balthayock Fresco TI +54, SRI +50, a 22 month old by the 8,000gns Swalesmoor Cracker and out of a home-bred dam was secured by JD Macaulay, Acharacle, Argyll. Major Walter’s 18 month old Balthayock Fusilade TI +55, SRI +50 by Barbican Lancer and out of a home-bred cow went for the same price to A Shand, Ellon, Aberdeenshire. Major Walter also saw Balthayock Fairplay TI +55, SRI +57 sell for 5,000gns to DA Baird and Sons, Newburgh, Fife. This 18 month old was by the home-bred Balthayock Adonis and out of a home-bred dam.
A bid of 6,000gns also secured Thrunton Fernandez TI +21, SRI +26 bred by J H C Campbell and Sons, Alnwick, Northumberland. This 21 month old by the 15,000gns Burradon Talisman and out of a home-bred cow was the highest of the Campbell’s lots and sold to Messrs Walker, Duns, Berwickshire. The same breeder saw a call of 5,500gns win Thrunton Frodo TI +19, SRI +28, a 23 month old also by Talisman, for B Keir and Son, Alford, Aberdeenshire. Next came Thrunton Faraday TI +39, SRI +41, a 21 month old by the 16,000gns Maerdy Cecil and out of a home-bred cow for a bid of 5,500gns from J and S Ross, Shawhead, Dumfriesshire.
Ugie Figurehead TI +42, SRI +36 from JT Wilson, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire was knocked down sold at 5,800gns to K M Irving, Whiting Bay, Isle of Arran. This 18 month old was by Balmyle Denholm and out of a home-bred dam.
Three lots were sold at 5,500gns. A bid from H Wilson, Girvan, Ayrshire claimed Caithness Frank TI +22, SRI +25, a 21 month old by Harviestoun Casino and out of a home-bred cow from D and M Campbell, Lybster, Caithness.
Then came Midlock Falkirk TI +24, SRI +27 from J J Wight, Biggar, Lanarkshire. This 22 month old by Allanfauld Voltage and out of a home-bred dam went home with W S L Muir, Stromness, Orkney for 5,500gns.
The final lot knocked down sold at 5,500gns came from W K and P Drysdale, Blairgowrie, Perthshire. Glenericht Fortune TI +21, SRI +30, a 22 month old by Balnuth Valour and out of Burradon Shameless was purchased by G Wilson, Glenkindie, Aberdeenshire.
A bid of 5,400gns won Newhouse Festival TI +47, SRI +31, a 16 month old by the 18,000gns Sackville Claudius and out of a home-bred dam for J M More, Gargunnock, Stirling. This one was from R M Adam and Son, Forfar, Angus.
Benhar Flint TI +42, SRI +40 came in next at 5,200gns. This 19 month old from R and H McNee, Forgandenny, Perthshire, by the 7,000gns Balthayock Tamarind ET and out of Newhouse Castaway was bought by EM Baxter, Bridge of Weir, Rewfrenshire.
Four lots cleared at 4,800gns with two of those from J Jeffrey, Kelso, Scottish Borders. Kersknowe Ferret TI +43, SRI +46, a two year old by Balnuith Carvalho and out of a home-bred cow was knocked down sold to J M and W Turnbull, St Andrews, Fife. The same breeders also saw Kersknowe Firework TI +36, SRI +30, reach the same price. By Sackville Dynamite and out of a home-bred cow, he went home with A Clark, Islay, Argyll.
Corrie Franz a 23 month old from G McFadzean Junior, Woodhead of Mailer, Perth, was purchased by Fairlie Farming, Arbroath, Angus for 4,800gns. This one was by Harestone Tadorne and out of a home-bred cow.
A bid of 4,800gns was also made for Corrie Firetrap by C J Guild and Son, New Cumnock, Ayrshire. This 19 month old from D MacGregor, Kilsyth, Glasgow, was by Corrie Druid and out of Corrie Clarabel.
