Charolais Heifers sell to 13,200gns at annual heifer sale

The Northern Ireland Charolais Club’s annual autumn show and sale of heifers at Swatragh Livestock Mart, peaked at 13,200gns, with 15 lots selling to average £6447.

Heifers from the Ruddy family, Kenaghan, Strabane, achieved the top two prices, with Kenaghan Vienna leading the trade at 13,200gns. This 14-month-old daughter of Clyth Diplomat, out of the Culkenny Legend 2-sired Kenaghan Princess, sold to Claire Ferris.

The same buyer paid 8900gns for the reserve champion, Kenaghan Vita, another 14-month-old, this time sired by Liscally Eti, out of Whinfort Mia, a daughter of Major.

Making 7000gns was Killadeas Vic, a Goldies Icon daughter from David Bothwell, Co Fermanagh. Out of the Dunlon Ulick daughter, Killadeas Singingbird, she was knocked down to Daniel McKillop.

Judge, George Hadnett, selected Gallion Vienna as overall champion. This March, 2024-born heifer, from Edgar Johnston, Cookstown, Co Tyrone, is sired by Goldstar Othello and out of the Dingle Hofmeister daughter, Gallion Olympia. She sold to William Johnston.

Heading home with the same buyer was another from the Ruddy family, Kenaghan Valletta, an 18-month-old daughter of Noble Prince, out of Ardabrone Stella. She made 6500gns.

Moorlough Vibrant sold for 5,700gns.

Killadeas Velma sold for 6,000gns.

Kenaghan Vanessa sold for 6,500gns.

Moorlough Vicky sold for 4,500gns

Killadeas Vic sold for 7,000gns.

Kenaghan Vienna sold for 13,200gns.

Reserve overall champion, Kenaghan Vita sold for 8,900gns.

Overall Champion Gallion Vienna sold for 6,800gns
