A small but select show and sale of Charolais at Exeter saw a top bull price of 6,000gns, with 10 bulls selling to average £5397 and three females levelling out at £3080.
Leading the trade, at 6,000gns, was Lovistone Ultimate, from BR Nancekivell and Son, Huish, Okehampton. This 21-month-old is sired by Cove Parkranger and out of the Woodpark Fearless daughter, Lovistone Lilac. He sold to LC and CA South, Farley Water, Brendon.
From the same home, Lovistone Vince sold at 5,800gns to RG, LA and SR Wearing, Wheal Maria, Tavistock. He’s also by Cove Parkranger, while the dam, Lovistone Sadie, is by Maerdy Northwestwind.
Another from the Nancekivells, Lovistone Uppercut, sold at 5,500gns to AW and AR Gale, 12 Oaks Farm, Teigngrace, Devon. A second prize winner in the show, this Balthayock Muskateer son is out of Lovistone Shelby.
Matching the 5,500gns price tag was Trenestrall Umpire, a two-year-old Caylers Pioneer son, from Cornwall breeders, WF Palmer and Son, Ruan Highlanes, Truro. His dam is the Mortimers Cosmo daughter, Trenestrall Henna.
Rodney Gregory, Kerling Farm, Chacewater, sold Kerlingfarm United for 5,200gns to GTJ and AR Medland, Wilminstone Hall, Tavistock. He’s sired by Swalesmoor Cracker and out of Silvermere Spirit, an Allanfauld Neptune daughter.
Hitting the 5,000gns mark was Escott Ulswater, an Escott Percy son out of Escott Lola, from VE Sellick, Williton, Taunton. He was knocked down to PA and LA Webber, Stockham Farm, Thelbridge, Devon.
Also at 5,000gns was A and V Sellick’s Brendonhill Ugo, the bull that had earlier been selected as male champion by judge Andrew Haste. His sire is Swalesmoor Cracker, while the dam is Vellow Oxna, an Alwent Hercules daughter. He sold to Everard Partners, Broford Farm, Dulverton.
The reserve male champion was WF Palmer and Son’s Trenestrall Umpire, a Caylers Pioneer son, out of Trenestrall Henna, which sold for 4,900gns to TWT and MR Dawe, Highlands, Lewdown, Okehampton.
Female champion was Polgoda Valentine, a 14-month-old heifer from DR and B Stacey, Bugle, Cornwall. Sired by Dooley Rascal and out of Polgoda Jellybean, she sold for the top female price of 3,800gns, to Steven Ley and Hannah Payne, Lanseaton, Liskeard.
