Rhubarb Tops the Bids at Exeter

The afternoon of Friday 22nd April 2022 saw the South West Charolais Association’s 37th Annual Spring Show & Sale take place at Kivells, Exeter. A total of 7 bulls found new homes, reaching a top price of 6,000gns with a 78% clearance and an average price of £4297.50 – up a whopping £1077.50 on last year’s sale. Two heifers also sold, to an average price of £1968.75.

Securing the top price of 6,000gns was PENHARGARD RHUBARB, a 23-month-old polled bull bred by T J Stacey & Sons of Looe, Cornwall. Rhubarb was born to Penhargard Needy, a daughter of Cockerington Jethro, and he was sired by the Penhargard herd’s Swedish-born stock sire Simontorp Marabou AV. Winning the bid and taking Rhubarb home was B Clarke from Doddiscombsleigh, Devon.

LOVISTONE ROLAND from the herd of B R Nancekivell & Son in Okehampton, Devon, took the next highest price of 5,000gns. This charming young 15-month-old was sired by the renowned easy-calver Blelack Digger, and his dam is Lovistone Oprah – a daughter of the 8,500gns Woodpark Fearless. Like Rhubarb before him, Roland also caught the attention of winning bidder B Clarke of Doddiscombsleigh, Devon.

Moynton Roscoe, Overall Champion, sold for 4,500gns

The third highest price of the day of 4,500gns went to the day’s Overall Champion, MOYNTON ROSCOE from P C Old of Dorchester, Dorset. Roscoe’s sire is former Royal Cornwall Show Champion Marne Gucci, and his dam is Moynton Mimosa, a daughter of the popular French AI bull PTIPrince. Roscoe will be making the trip over to Bridestowe, Devon, to the herd of winning bidder B W J Lavis.

The next highest price of 3,600gns was achieved by POLGODA SIMON, a 15-month-old from D R & B Stacey of St. Austell, Cornwall. Simon was born to Polgoda Molly, a daughter of former Charolais Champion at the Royal Cornwall Show, Balbithan Eria. His sire is the 9,000gns Goldies Lawson, who claimed the title of Reserve Supreme Champion at Carlisle in 2017. Taking Simon home is winning bidder M R Daw of Ugborough, Devon.

The hammer came down twice for the next highest price of 3,500gns, firstly for the 22-month-old TRENESTRALL RIGHT from the herd of W F Palmer & Son of Truro, Cornwall. Right was sired by the 8,000gns Edenhurst Idol, and his dam is Trenestrall Monalisa – a daughter of Springfarm Eldon. He will be journeying back to Cornwall, this time to Braddock under the care of new owners A & J M Hembrow.

Lovistone Sabre, Reserve Overall Champion, sold for 3,500gns

Also selling for 3,500gns was the Reserve Overall Champion, LOVISTONE SABRE, another high-quality offering from the Nancekivells. Sabre was born to another daughter of Woodpark Fearless, Lovistone Lavender, and he was sired by Maerdy Northwestwind. The day’s Reserve Champion caught the eye of J Sillifant, who won the bid and will be introducing Sabre to their herd in Pancrasweek, Devon.

The final bull to be sold was 16-month-old MOYNTON RICARDO from P C Old, who reached a price of 2,550gns. Ricardo’s dam is Moynton Noretta, a daughter of Marne Gucci, and he was sired by Moynton Oscar. This strapping young lad will be making the trip over to the herd of winning bidder G H J Medland in Peter Tavy, Devon.

Finally, a pair of 14-month-old heifers bred by A & H Wylde of Woolavington, Somerset, went under the hammer. The highest price of the pair was 1,900gns, secured by LEWYD SILVIA. Silvia was sired by Lewyd Milton, and was born to Martland Laurel, a daughter of Skysea Fearless. Winning the bid for Silvia was W Glover of Yeovil, Somerset.

Selling for 1,850gns was Silvia’s sister LEWYD SIBBLE. Sibble was also sired by Lewyd Milton, and her dam is another Skysea Fearless daughter – Martland Mood. C G & S W G Berry were the winning bidders this time, who will be taking Sibble back to Crediton, Devon.
