Phantom, Piranha and Powerhouse top the Charolais at the Aberdeen Spring Sale
Aberdeen and Northern Marts held their Spring Sale of Pedigree Bulls on Wednesday 24th February at the Thainstone Centre. With the highest number of animals entered in the sale, a small but high-quality offering of Charolais bulls saw 3 bulls reach a high of 6,000gns, with 8 bulls selling to average £5000.63 with a 62% clearance.
A trio of bulls sold for the top price of the day at 6,000gns. First up was ELRICK PHANTOM, bred by Mr M J Massie of Ellon, Aberdeenshire. This 22-month-old lad is sired by the easy calving Maerdy Gouverneur and out of Elrick Jackie, a daughter of the 16,000gns bull Thrunton Fearless, who was the intermediate and supreme champion at Stirling in 2011. This lad will be making the journey to his new home in Fraserburgh to the home of G B Grieve.
The second bull to reach 6000gns was AUCHINCRIEVE PIRANHA, bred by Mr C M McCombie of Huntly, Aberdeenshire. This bull is sired by Maerdy Express who sold for 45,000gns in 2011 and out of Auchincrieve Jody, a daughter of Olrig Highwayman. This May 2019 born bull was purchased by J Baxter from Banff.
The last bull to go under the hammer at 6,000gns was KINCLUNE POWERHOUSE, from J A Wilson & Sons of Alford, Aberdeenshire. Sired by Goldies Ivan and out of Kinclune Gallica, a daughter of Thrunton Crownprince. This 20-month-old bull will be joining the herd at C G McGilliver’s farm at Ballindalloch.
GLENERNAN PLUTO, bred by W & N Milne of Strathdon, Aberdeenshire, was the next best seller of the day reaching 5,000gns. This February 2019 born lad is sired by Elgin Jagger who sold for 17,000gns at Stirling in 2016. Pluto’s dam is Glenernan Fyne, a daughter of Mistral Ben. This lad will be heading to Fraserburgh to the farm of I Lumsden.
BONNYKELLY PREMIUM born in September 2019, sold for 4,700gns and was the last of the Charolais lots to go through the ring. Bred by Mr R Leggat of Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire. This bull is sired by Kersknowe Jake, and out of Bonnykelly Maggie, a daughter of the 10,000gns bull Gretnahouse Ivory and was purchased by A J Beattie from Castle Farm, Nairn.
The gavel came down twice at 4,000gns, the first time for NEWLOGIE PRINCEERIC from AJR Farms of Ellon, Aberdeenshire. This 24-month-old bull is fully parent verified to Newlogie Nobel and out of Newlogie Naya. He will be heading to Darnford, Banchory to the farm of P & M Watson.
AUCHINCRIEVE PEDRO also secured 4,000gns, another sired by the 45,000gns bull Maerdy Express and out of Auchincrieve Janet, a daughter of Balbithan Vespasian who sold for 26,000gns in 2006. This April 19 born bull is bred by Mr C M McCombie from Huntly in Aberdeenshire and will head to his new home of P McMillan from Borrabus Farm, Islay.
