Charolais cattle met with a ready trade in Dungannon on Friday 4 March topping at 4,800gns with 46 lots selling at a clearance rate of 82% and a bull average of £3039.
Trade topper was Ardmachree Jack TI +59 SRI +55, a 16 month old from Aaron Quigley, Macken, Co Fermanagh. This son of Blelack Digger and out of an imported dam was purchased by WE Carson, Ballydargen, Co Down.
Next along was another Digger son this time exhibited by John and William McMordie, Ballygowan, Co Down. The October 2014-born Solitude Jackpot TI +59 SRI +56 caught the eye of J Kennedy, Downpatrick, Co Down who paid 4,500gns.
The McMordie’s also sold another top lot at 3,500gns this time going home to Carryduff, Co Down with C Shaw. Solitude Leopold was a first prize winner and also the youngest bull of the sale. He was sired by Oldstone Egbert and out of Goldstar Guadalupe who was crowned the senior female champion at the Irish National Show.
The Reserve Supreme Champion Drumlone Jackpot TI +46 SRI +36 was next to sell at 4,200gns and was bred and exhibited by Kenneth Veitch, Lisbellaw, Co Fermanagh. Jackpot is a 15 month old son of Goldstar Echo and was snapped up by P Brown, Hilltown, Co Down.
Knocked down at 4,100gns was the December 2014-born Hillviewfarm Jackson TI +46 SRI +45 sired by Blelack Digger. This lad was offered by Adrian Richardson and Sons, Maguiresbridge, Co Fermanagh and purchased by J O’Connor, Dungiven, Co Derry.
The Supreme Champion Corrick Jupiter was the first of two to sell for 4,000gns. He is an 18 month old son of Drummeer Donald who himself was the top priced lot when he sold in 2010 and has also gone on to become the reserve intermediate male champion at Clogher show. Jupiter was bred and exhibited by Cecil McIlwaine, Newtownstewart, Co Tyrone and was purchased by B Blaney, Cushendall, Co Antrim.
From the same vendor came the September 2014-born Blelack Digger son Corrick Jackal TI +49 SRI +51 who was purchased by J Giles, Beragh, Co Tyrone for 3,500gns.
Also going for 4,000gns was the red ticket winner Shaneglish Jaguar purchased by D Patterson, Magerlin, Co Armagh. G Ardis, Craigavon, Co Armagh offered this 19 month old sired by Clonoulty Andraemon.
Another class winner was next to sell at 3,800gns to H Crawford, Glenarm, Co Antrim. Entered by S and A McKenna, Clogher, Co Tyrone, Ballyoak Jericho is a 16 month old son of the 15,000gns Carlisle supreme champion Burradon Talisman.
Will Short, Beragh, Co Tyrone offered the next lot at 3,600gns. The September 2014-born Deeside Gulliver son and blue ticket winner Woodpark Jimbob TI +54 SRI +47 was purchased by J McArthur, Limavady, Co Derry.
Selling for 3,500gns was the reserve senior male champion Brogher Joiner, a May 2014-born Goldies Eddy son. Bred and exhibited by Trevor Phair, Bellanaleck, Co Fermanagh he was purchased by D and B Thornton, Florencecourt, Co Fermanagh.
Just behind at 3,300gns was an entry from William Whyte, Portglenone, Co Antrim. Innishrush Jayjay TI +45 SRI +43, a 17 month old by the 12,000gns Gwenog Banjo went home to Aughnamore, Co Tyrone with T Smith.
Two bulls sold for a 3,100gns price tag and the first to go was another 17 month old, Royaldowns Jaguar TI +48 SRI +47. Mervyn McKeown exhibited this Caithness Foxley son who was knocked down to M Nicholas, Plumbridge, Co Tyrone.
The final bidder at the same price was J Shannon, Ballinaleck, Co Fermanagh. He liked the look of the 13 month old Alwent Goldbar son Corbally Louie who earlier in the day had secured a blue rosette for M Tumelty, Downpatrick, Co Down.
Female Section
Leading the bids for the females at 2,900gns was the female champion Hillviewfarm Justine who was bred and exhibited by Adrian Richardson and Sons, Maguiresbridge, Co Fermanagh. This 23 month old daughter of the 12,000gns Maerdy Fiend went home to Garvaghy, Co Tyrone with I Wight.
Also selling for the same 2,900gns price tag, this time for exhibitor James McBride, Strabane, Co Tyrone was Moorlough Jenna, a March 2014-born sired by the Highland show reserve junior bull Elgin Davinci. Forking out the cash for this one was C Grante, Mullaghbawn, Co Down who went on to buy three more lots.
Following on at 2,700gns was the class winner Coolnaslee Jenny. Another daughter of Elgin Davinci bred and exhibited by Gilbert Crawford, Maghera, Co Derry. WM Whyte, Portglenone, Co Antrim bought this 22 month old.
Mr Crawford carried on his success when he received a bid of 2,500gns for the reserve female champion Coolnaslee Janelle. The May 2014-born sired by the 19,000gns Corrie Alan was snapped up by M Donnolly, Killybarn, Co Tyrone.
