Leader at 6,000gns was the day’s supreme champion, Bassett Icon, a 20 month old by Harestone Dominator and out of a homebred dam from Jean Atkinson, Thorpe Bassett, Malton. The buyer was JS Gargett, Westwick, Barnard Castle. This bull completes a hattrick of wins at the November Carlisle Charolais sales for Jean Atkinson, bringing her the championship for three years running. This year’s champion Bassett Icon like the former champions – Bassett Hallmark and Bassett Genie – is sired by Harestone Domino who was purchased by Mrs Atkinson from NR Barclay in 2009 for 10,000gns. Domino has proved very productive with over 100 progeny born on Mrs Atkinson’s holding.

Next at 5,200gns was Harestone Imperator TI +56, SRI +58, an 18 month old by the 6,000gns Balthayock Aesop from Neil Barclay, Insch, Aberdeen to P and TL Edmondson, Kirkby in Furness.
