Charolais Youth National Stockjudging Final 2022

We are delighted to announce the return of the Charolais Youth National Stockjudging Final & Open Day, taking place on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th July 2022, and kindly hosted by the Walter family of the Balthayock Farm in Perth, Scotland, PH2 7LG.

The competition will be open to ages 8-26, divided into the following classes:

Senior Class: 19-26 years old
Intermediate Class: 15-18 years old
Junior Class: 8-14 years old

If you are interested in competing, please notify your local youth co-ordinator by 1st July 2022 to ensure you are registered to attend/compete. Please note some regions may conduct qualifiers to be nominated to compete in the final. Children under 18 who are attending must be accompanied by an adult.

Competitors must wear a white show coat (either Charolais branded or unbranded).

Each competitor will receive compensation towards the cost of traveling to the final, depending on the distance being travelled.

23rd July 2022 – Open Day

There will be an optional open day on Saturday 23rd July by kind permission of the Adam Family, Newhouse Herd, Glamis, to begin at 14:00 and estimated to last approximately 2-3 hours.

24th July 2022 – Final

Itinerary

  • 10:00-12:00 – Charolais Youth Stockjudging and reason giving.
  • 12:00-13:00 – Lunch
  • 13:00-13:30 – Informative talk from our sponsor Harbro.
  • 13:30-15:00 – Tour of the Balthayock Farm
  • 15:00-15:30 – Presentation of prizes and photos
  • 15:30 – Approximate finish

Steward: Allen Drysdale of the Glenericht herd

There will be four classes of four animals each to judge. The top 10 Senior and Intermediate competitors will be asked to give their reasoning on one class (chosen on the day) to the master judge Iain Millar. All Junior competitors will be asked to fill out an assessment card on one animal (chosen on the day).

3rd Place: Charolais bodywarmer

1st Place: Fairway Perpetual Trophy, and competition trophies to keep
