The Championship line up from left to right: BCCS President Stuart Bothwell, Andrew Hornall with Balbithan Voile, BCCS Chief Executive David Benson, BCCS Chairman Iain Millar, Murray Lyle, George and John McCulloch with Lamerpark Champion and the judge Gilbert Crawford

Lamerpark Champion, a two year old Charolais bull was hailed the supreme champion at Scottish and Northern Charolais Breeders’ national show staged at Perth Show on Saturday 1 August, before going on to collect the overall champion of champions award on the field.

Led to victory by Murray Lyle, Mid Cambushinnie, Dunblane, the aptly named Champion was no stranger to the ring having secured the reserve overall, junior breed and junior interbreed title at the Royal Highland earlier this season. A Weybread Archie son and out of a cow going back to Balthayock Matthew he was bred by DG White, and secured in Perth to join the 70 cow Loganbar herd.

Standing below him in the final Charolais line up of the Scottish and Northern Charolais Breeders’ event was the female champion, Balbithan Voile, a five year old bred by Mr and Mrs Andrew White and purchased privately by her exhibitor, Andrew Hornall, Falleninch, Stirling. Voile, who five weeks earlier stood in exactly the same position at the Royal Highland, was a Baggrave Minstral daughter and she was exhibited with her heifer calf at foot by Gower Armani.

The junior male title went to Thrunton DareDevil, an 18 month old by Burradon Talisman son from the Campbell family, Ian and John, and their father, Colin, Thrunton, Alnwick. Daredevil who eventually went to secure the junior interbreed championship on the field, had been placed first in his class at the Border Union the previous weekend. He was one of three male entries from Thrunton which went on to win the pairs section and also the group of three.

Murray Lyle was again among the winnings when his 18 month old heifer, Loganbar Delia by Balmyle Addition, claimed the junior and overall reserve female titles.
