The Grand Final of the BCCS Charolais Championships was hosted by Clogher Valley Agricultural Society Ltd and the members of the NI Charolais Club were delighted with such a good entry of forty five premium Charolais cattle from across Northern Ireland.  This year the championship was sponsored by the British Charolais Cattle Society with qualifying classes at eight agricultural shows.

The championship brought together qualifiers from provincial shows that had already won class championships and interbreed awards locally. This was the Grand Final that would bring all these top quality cattle together to compete for the Champion and Reserve Champion in each of the six classes. The judge was renowned AG Houston from Gretna Green Scotland.

The beautiful dawn heralded a good day for Clogher Show; even though the forecast predicted heavy rain in the afternoon. The sunshine had brought out many thousands of spectators who crowded around the ring as the first class of Senior Bulls were led in. The NI Charolais Club had organised an Open Stock Judging Competition in this class; spectators had to place the four top bulls in order of their choice out of the nine bulls presented; when the judging of this championship was complete; Mr Houston then gave reasons why he had placed the following animals 1st – 4th in the Senior Bull Class:

Derryharney Fantastic, Coolnaslee Foreman, Tonaghmore Famed & Tonaghmore Favourite.

The winner of the Competition was Mr Stuart Murphy Brookborough who received a voucher for £250 to be redeemed at a Charolais Sale in Dungannon.
