Going to the sales?
How do I find animals suited
specifically to my herd's requirements?
Click on On line Sales Catalogues
Click on the sale you would like to search
Click on "search/sort catalogue"
At this stage scroll to the bottom of the page and click
on "Click for percentiles" (Print this page off for easy
reference)
Go back to the selection criteria page
Enter your search criteria
e.g. if you want an animal in the average calving ease, look
at the percentile table for calving ease direct 50% (0)
minimum, maximum is the top value 2.2.
Enter these figures into the search criteria
table
Then for example if you want the top 50% for 400 day weight,
enter - minimum +12, maximum +39. For the top 50% Carcass
Yield Index, enter - minimum +9, maximum +26.
Click search
This will then display the animal/s, with the genetic
criteria you requested, which are available for sale.
Obviously, now you can put in your own criteria to suit your
herd's requirements.
Now mark your catalogue and visit those lot numbers at
the sale Check their mobility, feet etc.,
