In the Steers a top today for some meat and finish from Padray Farms, Northamptonshire to see 230p/kg for a smart lean Charolais. In the store sale New vendor H J Douglass, saw out-wintered Charolais Steers at £1270 for 23 months of age and sisters £1120.

12 Charolais bred Steers sold to an average price of £1101 per head and the average weight per head was 516kg giving an average of 213 pence per kilo. Topping the lots was a 660kg steer which sold for £1415 for Mr G Coulter.
11 Charolais bred Heifers sold to an average price of £880 per head and the average weight per head was 445kg giving an average of 198 pence per kilo. £1125 was the top price paid to Mr S Kerr for his 540kg heifer.
11 Charolais bred Weanling Males sold to an average price of £768 per head and the average weight per head was 308kg giving an average of 249 pence per kilo. Mr R Davidson presented the top priced – a 385kg bull which sold for £900.
5 Charolais bred Weanling Heifers sold to an average price of £630 per head and the average weight per head was 315kg giving an average of 200 pence per kilo. The top priced at £660 was a 335kg heifer exhibited by Mr G Cullen.

26 Charolais bred Steers sold to an average price of £1044 per head and the average weight per head was 490kg giving an average of 212 pence per kilo. The top priced at £1185 was a 595kg steer from Mr R Junk, Coagh, Co Tyrone.
33 Charolais bred Heifers sold to an average price of £923 per head and the average weight per head was 465kg giving an average of 198 pence per kilo. Mr D Tener, Donaghmore, Co Tyrone exhibited the highest price, a 655kg heifer which sold for £1410.
18 Charolais bred Weanling Males sold to an average price of £732 per head and the average weight per head was 336kg giving an average of 218 pence per kilo. £900 was the top price paid for a 350kg lad presented by Mr A Hughes, Eglish, Dungannon.
16 Charolais bred Weanling Females sold to an average price of £611 per head and the average weight per head was 290kg giving an average of 210 pence per kilo. A 290kg heifer from Mr R J Dickinson, Aughnacloy sold for the top price of £725.

In the Prime Cattle Heifers sold to a swift trade as we move towards Easter. Top Padray Farms, Thrapston at £1468 for 699kg Charolais and other quality from the same good farm to see 211 and 210p/kg returning £1319. A real trade and the Cow job seemingly strong across the country with anything Grade 3 trading over 130p/kg. Messrs Tustian topped the trade with a Charolais x at 135p/kg for a grade 3 and £1051.

19 Charolais bred Steers sold to an average price of £1059 per head and the average weight per head was 485kg making an average of 218 pence per kilo. The top priced was a 655kg steer presented by Mr D Starrett, Drummanmore Road, Co Armagh which sold for £1355.
7 Charolais bred Heifers sold to an average price of £896 per head and the average weight per head was 433kg making an average of 207 pence per kilo. £975 was the price paid for a 460kg heifer which topped the section for Mr A Ferguson, Coagh, Co Tyrone.
16 Charolais bred Weanling males sold to an average price of £820 per head and the average weight per head was 346kg making an average of 237 pence per kilo. Mrs B Doran, Cabra, Dungannon presented the top priced – a 345kg lad who sold for £925.
12 Charolais bred Weanling heifers sold to an average price of £673 per head and the average weight per head was 342kg making an average of 196 pence per kilo. Topping the lots at £905 for a 500kg heifer from Mr F Oliver, Navan Fort Road, Co Armagh.

Store Cattle: 169 Forward
Grazing cows to start from JP Lucas to £800 for Charolais x cows. On then into the stores which saw Dave Bull kick off the sale, with Charolais x steers to £900 at 11 month and heifers to £770. Roger Wixey carried on with Charolais x steers to £970, with heifers to £710 at 11 months. WH Robinson & son, Peterborough sold Charolais x steers to £960 at 10 months, with Saler x steers to £900 at the same age. 18 month old Charolais x heifers at £1210 saw M A Lee top the days trading.

11 Charolais bred Steers sold to an average price of £1020 per head and the average weight per head was 486kg giving an average of 210 pence per kilo. The top priced was a 625kg steer presented by Mr J Hamill, Ballygawley, Co Tyrone which sold for £1,300.
9 Charolais bred heifers sold to an average price of £918 per head and the average weight per head was 426kg giving an average of 215 pence per kilo. Topping the lots at £1370 was a 605kg heifer from Mr D Nelson, Moygashel, Dungannon.
9 Charolais bred Weanling males sold to an average price of £736 per head and the average weight per head was 340kg giving an average of 216 pence per kilo. £905 was the top price paid to Mr C Bloomer, Dungannon, Co Tyrone for his 425kg bull.
7 Charolais bred Weanling heifers sold to an average price of £672 per head and the average weight per head was 325kg giving an average of 207 pence per kilo. Mr S O’Neill, Galbally, Co Tyrone, made the best money in the section bagging £820 for his 370kg heifer.

15 Charolais bred Steers sold to an average price of £1034 per head and the average weight per head was 480kg giving an average of 215 pence per kilo. Making the best money on the day was Mr J Bell, Cookstown, Co Tyrone with his 670kg steer selling for £1250.
15 Charolais bred Heifers sold to an average price of £888 per head and the average weight per head was 443kg giving an average of 201 pence per kilo. £1140 was the top price paid for a 495kg from Mr M Nelson, Dungannon, Co Tyrone.
7 Charolais bred Weanling Males sold to an average price of £811 per head and the average weight per head was 380kg giving an average of 231 pence per kilo. Leading the prices at £1060 was Mr G Litter, Portadown, Co Armagh with his 535kg bull.
8 Charolais bred Weanling Heifers sold to an average price of £690 per head and the average weight per head was 365kg giving an average of 190 pence per kilo. The top priced at £800 was a 390kg lass from Mr M Oliver, Navan Fort Road, Co Armagh.

In the Store Cattle we started with an aged Polled Charolais Bull from Messrs Bostock selling to £1225 at rising 7 years. Into the young cattle and the small weanlings a swift trade for bucket sorts albeit those bucket reared calves falling in odd ages between 6 and 14 months harder to sell. Single Suckled calves quite the opposite and selling to £900 at 11 months for Charolais Steers from WJP Atkins with others £820.
Older cattle definitely the trade of the day with cattle someway ahead of expectations. The first 5 into the ring 23 month old Charolais walked out at £1245 followed by the next pen £1190 for 8 of them. Then to the heifers which made up 2/3 of the consignment and a flyer of £1115 for the first 10 20 – 23 months of age, Followed with 5 at £1075 and 5 at £1065. M Lee showed his usual quality to see 18 month old Charolais Heifers to £1050. A run of aged cattle from EJ Taylor & Son topped at £1145 for 21 month old Charolais Steers with others £1130 and £1100. Strong Charolais Heifers saw £1135 and £1130 at 23 months of age.

21 Charolais bred Steers sold to an average price of £1005 per head and the average weight per head was 495kg making an average of 203 pence per kilo. The top priced – a 550kg lad who sold for £1205 was presented by Mr R Ramsay, Pomeroy, Co Tyrone.
12 Charolais bred Heifers sold to an average price of £1020 per head and the average weight per head was 516kg making an average of 198 pence per kilo. £1190 was the top price paid to Mr J Cornett, Co Armagh.
13 Charolais bred Weanling males sold to an average price of £740 per head and the average weight per head was 314kg making an average of 236 pence per kilo. Mr B Holland, Dungannon, Co Tyrone made the best price of £905 for his 355kg bull.
4 Charolais bred Weanling heifers sold to an average price of £581 per head and the average weight per head was 307kg making an average of 189 pence per kilo. A 294kg heifer sold for £610 – the best price in the section – for Mr F Devlin, Coagh, Co Tyrone.

26 Charolais bred Steers sold to an average price of £958 per head and the average weight per head was 466kg making an average of 206 pence per kilo. Topping the section at £1250 was a 600kg steer from Mr R Davidson, Dungannon, Co Tyrone.
16 Charolais bred Heifers sold to an average price of £972 per head and the average weight per head was 490kg making an average of 198 pence per kilo. Mr G Boden, Newmills, Dungannon sold to top lot a 600kg heifer for £1160.
30 Charolais bred Weanling Males sold to an average price of £768 per head and the average weight per head was 340kg making an average of 226 pence per kilo. £960 was the top price paid for a 395kg lad from Mr J Holland 12, Cabragh, Dungannon.

16 Charolais bred Heifers sold to an average price of £934 per head and the average weight per head was 465kg giving an average of 201 pence per kilo. £1100 was the top price paid to the same vendor for his 525kg heifer.
8 Charolais bred Weanling Males sold to an average price of £812 per head and the average weight per head was 327kg giving an average of 248 pence per kilo. Mr S O’Neill, Galbally, Dungannon presented the top lot a 390kg lad who sold for £955.

Top price per head on the bulls went to mr JD Leavesley who sold Charolais at 1048 & 818kgs for £1661.08 & 1648.27 respectively and heifers were topped by Charolais too with 910kg first calvers selling for £1360.45 for Thelevton Farms.

14 feeding cows sold to a top of £157.5p or £1000.12 for a Charolais from Messrs GS Chatterton and in the stirks the top price of £760 was paid for 10 month old Charolais bulls from Roger Barlow.

21 Charolais bred Steers sold to an average price of £1043 per head and the average weight per head was 505kg giving an average of 206 pence per kilo. Top priced at £1195 was a 565kg steer presented by Mr G McMaster, Pomeroy, Dungannon.
15 Charolais bred Heifers sold to an average price of £885 per head and the average weight per head was 454kg giving an average of 195 pence per kilo. Mr McMaster also topped this section with his 580kg heifer making £1135.
8 Charolais bred Weanling Males sold to an average price of £783 per head and the average weight per head was 335kg giving an average of 233 pence per kilo. £935 was the top price paid for a 415kg lad from Mr G Wells, Moria.
18 Charolais bred Weanling Heifers sold to an average price of £574 per head and the average weight per head was 270kg giving an average of 213 pence per kilo. Mr K Barnes, Rock, Dungannon was the section leader with a 328kg heifer selling for £710.

Beef cows (202) averaged 129.5p and sold to 186p per kg for a 715kg Charolais from North Towieturner, Auchterless.
Prime heifers (31) sold to a top price of £1,419.60 gross for a 780kg Charolais from Honeybank, Auchenblae and purchased by Malcolm Allan, Stirling.
Store Heifers (317) averaged 225p to 270.3 p per kg for a pen of five 370kg Charolais from Netherton, Whitehouse and £1260 gross for a 548kg Charolais from Wartle, Lumphanan.

A very good catalogue entry of 435 strong forward stores were sold at the weekly sale whereby all classes were £60-£80 dearer on the week once again. Top overall was a superb Charolais cross from Mr BJ  Harrison, Beck Farm, Wigton who received £1400.

An entry of 260 beef cattle in Ballymena resulted in a terrific trade.  Beef cows sold to 190p per kilo for a 1000kg Charolais from Susan Smyth, Newtownstewart and beef bullocks sold to 193p per kilo for 660kg Charolais from G McMaster, Broughshane.
KINGTON
In the store sale steers averaged 219p per kilo and £1080 per head and sold to a top price of 249ppkg for 17 month old Charolais x’s from CP Holloway and £1240 for 22 month old Charolais x’s from AF James & son. Heifers averaged 2.10p per kilo and £1030 per head and sold to a top price of 247ppkg for 15 month old Charolais x’s from Messrs Watkins and £1200 for 22 month old Charolais x’s from RT Sankey & Co.

29 Young Bulls sold to an overall average of 171.8p per kilo with the top call of 217p per kilo going to a 554kg Charolais from Alec Merryman, Dronfield.
CARLISLE
A show of 294 cast cows and 16 stock bulls were forward with all the main cow buyers in the UK being represented at Carlisle ensuring one of the dearest trade to date. M/s Fox, St Johns Kirk run of cows topped at 207.5p for a Charolais x bought by Alan Jarvis. 16 Stock Bulls were forward with M/s Vevers, High Stenries Selling the top price, a Charolais selling weighing 1155kg selling for 137.5p per kilo and totalling £1588 to Mr Kirkpatrick.
CHELFORD
106 Store Cattle sold and the top call was £1300 for a Charolais x Cow just over 4-year-old and due March onwards to the Charolais from Peter Siddorn.
KIRKBY STEPHEN
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen mart held their fortnightly sale of Cast & OTM cattle on Monday, where 61 head were forward. Topping the sale at £1620.31 was a cast Charolais bull from Messrs Scott, Low Houses, Newbiggin in Teesdale which was purchased by Mr Barker.

James & Louise Davies took the top price in the steers of £1120.00 for their 543kg, 19 month old Charolais cross.
CAITHNESS
Store Bullocks sold to a top of £1,340 Gross for a pair of 692kg Charolais from Clachan, Mid-Clyth.

Bullocks (696) sold to a top price of £1,415 gross for a pen of 694kg Charolais from Birkenbower, Lumsden.
Orkney Cattle – Store Cattle (129) Bullocks sold to a top of £1350 for a 628 kg Charolais from J S Firth & Partners, Langskaill, Rousay and Heifers sold to a top of 238p per kg for a 370 kg Charolais from A Whyte, Honeysgoe, St Margarets Hope and £1210 for a 558 kg Charolais from Langskaill.

A very good entry of 400 forward store cattle were presented to a large ringside of purchasers resulting in a very good trade for all classes once again.  Messrs TB Stamper & Son, Rose Farm Cockermouth sold top Charolais cross steer to £1350 and another from Messrs Hodge, The Grove, Brampton at £1300.

Five Charolais bred Steers sold to an average price of £824 per head and the average weight per head was 687kg making an average 213 pence per kilo. £870 was the top price paid for a 350kg steer presented by Mr B Meenagh, Omagh, Co Tyrone.
11 Charolais bred Heifers sold to an average price of £905 per head and the average weight per head was 460kg making an average 197 pence per kilo. Mr B Hamill, Greystone, Dungannon exhibited the top priced, a 595kg heifer which sold for £1170.
21 Charolais bred Weanling males sold to an average price of £726 per head and the average weight per head was 323kg making an average 225 pence per kilo. A 400kg lad from Mr M Sheridan, Blackwatertown Road, Co Armagh made the best money in this section, selling for £820.
23 Charolais bred Weanling heifers sold to an average price of £688 per head and the average weight per head was 316kg making an average 217 pence per kilo. Topping the section at £860 was a 340kg heifer from Mr S O’Neill, Dunagnnon, Co Tyrone.
