Charolais bulls
peaked at 4,800gns and sold to average £2,823 on Saturday 24 April
at Newark Livestock Market’s official multi-breed show and sale.
A couple of same way
bred entries from Wesley Estates, Markfield, Leicester led the trade in the
male section.
Sale topper at 4,800gns was first prize winner,
Wesley Deacon, a two year old Balthayock Aesop son and out of a
homebred dam going back to Maerdy Rock. He was knocked down sold to G White
and Son, Alford,
Lincolnshire.
Next at 3,500gns was
the Charolais champion, Wesley Eddy,
a 15 month old Aesop son, out of a Rock bred dam and who was within the
breed’s top 5% with a Terminal Index (TI) +35. The buyers were AEJ and FJ
Claridge, Middle Claydon, Buckinghamshire.
A bid of 3,000gns
secured the reserve champion,
Brampton Dubai for H Williams and Sons, Machynlleth, Powys. Bred and
exhibited by Billy Turner, Skelton-on-Ure, Ripon, this 17 month old was a
Billingley Talisman son and out of a cow from homebred lines.
A consignment of
females from Wesley Estates was led at 3,000gns twice by a couple of cows by
the 20,000gns Perth champion, Thrunton Trojan, and each accompanied by their
calves by Balthayock Aesop. First in the ring was
Wesley Ability sold with
her seven month old heifer, Wesley
Excuse. The pair was secured by PK Farms, Friskney,
Boston,
Lincolnshire.
Minutes later,
Wesley Augusta and her seven
month heifer, Wesley External
made 3,000gns to K Emerson, Thringstone, Leicestershire.
The female section
of Charolais breeders’ consignments was led at 1,700gns by first class prize
winner, Moathall Desiree, a 16
month old heifer by Brampton Temperature and out of a Weybred sired homebred
dam. Bred and exhibited by Julie Wicks, Mellis, Eye, she sold to IM and CLC
White, Oakham,
Rutland.

Charolais top
Newark
multi-breed trade at 3,600gns

The day’s leader, Wesley Chieftan at 3,600gns
Charolais bulls were in demand commanding
the day’s top 3,600gns bid in
Newark
on Saturday 11 April at Newark Livestock Market’s multi-breed show and sale.
Sale
leader at 3,600gns was Wesley Chieftan, an 18 month old Balthayock Aesop son
and out of a homebred dam by the 20,000gns
Perth
champion, Thrunton Trojan. Chieftan who was within the breed’s top 15% with
a TSI +23 and SRI +29, was bred by Wesley Estates, Markfield, Leicester and
sold to G White and Son, Beesby, Alford.
Wesley Estates offered the day’s next two
highest entries. The 17 month old Wesley Cruiser TSI +31 SRI +36, another
Aesop son and out of a homebred cow, this time going back to Maerdy Rock was
awarded the day’s championship before selling for 3,300gns to NAS Johnson,
Bitteswell, Lutterworth.
A bid of 2,600gns secured Wesley Creditor
TSI +24 SRI +33 for Padray Farms, Rushden,
Northampton.
This rising two year old was by Burradon Talisman, sire of the 55,000gns
Perth
supremo, Thrunton Voldemort and out of another homebred dam by Maerdy Rock.
James and Vanessa Webb,
Billesdon,
Leicester
offered 2,800gns for the reserve champion, Mowbraypark Cambridge TSI +24 SRI
+29 from Mike and Margaret Atkinson, Kirkby Malzeard, Ripon. A 19 month old,
Cambridge
was by Alwent Ulysses and out of a homebred cow by the noted Mowbraypark
Paramount.
The female trade was led by a
couple of two year old heifers from Peter Donger’s Seawell herd, Foxley,
Towcester. Seawell Catwalk, who was by the 30,000gns Thrunton Voltage, made
2,300gns, while Seawell Contour, by the 8,000
Perth
junior champion Edenhurst Sterling commanded a 2,000gns bid. Both lots went
home with GW Jones, Brixworth,
Northampton.

Brampton Bonzo sold for 3,500gns
Charolais met an unprecedented demand selling to a top of 5,000gns and achieving a total clearance in Newark on Saturday 26 April at the centre’s inaugural multi-beef breed sale.
Sale topper at 5,000gns was Brampton Bigwig, a 16 month old by the 8,000gns Kelton Valiant and out of a homebred cow by Bassett Pearlyking. Bred and exhibited by Billy Turner, Skelton on Ure, Ripon, Bigwig who was earlier on was placed third in his class was knocked down sold to AW Richardson and Son, Illam, Ashbourne.
Two more Valiant sons from the same breeder were in the money. The 17 month old Brampton Bonzo commanded the day’s second leading call of 3,500gns from Messrs Garthwaite, Caldergrove, Wakefield. Finally, the December 2006 born Brampton Bronco attracted a bid of 1,800gns from A Kirk, Underwood, Nottingham.
Two lots sold for 3,200gns each. First to go was the 17 month old Newroddige Adonis from Newroddige Charolais, Edingale, Tamworth. A Seawell Icon son and out of a Maerdy bred cow who went back to the 28,000gns Maerdy Primeminister. He sold to the Burling Brothers, Over, Cambridge.
Mortimers Barracuda, an October 2006 born Mortimers Upstart son claimed the reserve championship for Mortimers Farms, Eastleigh, Hampshire and sold for 3,200gns to P Sherratt, Swadlingcote, Derby.
The day’s championship was awarded to Hamilton Braveheart, a rising two year old from Chris Turney, Tibberton, Gloucester. A Mortimers Robroy son, he commanded 3,000gns from H Savage, Ridgeway, Sheffield.
Females sold to a top of 2,100gns for Holstead Attraction from Jean and Freddie Andrews, Holmfirth. This November 2005 born heifer by the 10,000gns Inverlochy Topsire went to Lincolnshire based breeders, WH Farrow and Sons, Strubby, Alford.
