Dungannon Charolais peak at 4,600gns

Ratoary Evander the top lot at 4,600gns and Overall Reserve Champion

Mountjoy Echo, the day's Overall Champion at 4,400gns

Charolais bulls met a bouyant trade peaking at 4,600gns in Dungannon on Monday 31 May at the NI Charolais Club’s May show and sale.

Sale topper at 4,600gns was Ratoary Evander, the day’s reserve junior, reserve male and overall reserve supreme champion. A 15 month old by Dartonhall Brandy and out of a Beechdale bred cow by Rossy Pride, he was bred and exhibited by Sean McGovern, Clogher and the buyer was Cloughey Farm, Newtownards.

Next at 4,400gns was the 14 month old Fury Action son, Mountjoy Echo who led the way throughout above Evander, by taking the junior and overall male titles and finally going on to take the overall supreme award. Bred by Desmond McAskie, Omagh, he was knocked down sold to H Blaney, Ballymena.

The Senior Champion, Stranagone Edd at 3,500gns

A bid of 3,500gns secured the senior champion, Stranagone Edd, a 16 month old from Robert McWilliams, Swatragh, to J Mullan, Pomery. Sired by Oldstone Egbert, he was out of a Bevingford bred cow going back to Mowbraypark Napolean. 

Two lots were bid to 3,100gns each. First to go was Lisleitrim Denver, a 20 month old Pirate son and out of an Anneskeagh dam. Bred by Dominic Bellew, Newry, Denver went home with Liam McElroy, Ardboe.

The second 3,100gns bid was made by Arthur Kelly, Carrickmore for Drumfin Democrate from Basil Buchanan, Hillsborough. This 19 month old was sired by Moorefield Viper and out of a homebred dam going back to Dolland lines.

First Class winner, Tonaghmore Danny at 3,000gns

Three entries shared a 3,000gns price tag. Harold Crawford Fintona offered his 20 month old Tonaghmore Danny, a Tonaghmore Augusto son and out of a Knockhill bred dam to B O’Mally, Newry.

Next to sell for 3,000gns was Toberlane Designerbull, an 18 month old by Allanfauld Superscot and out of a Balthaynock Nougat sired homebred dam. Designerbull was bred and exhibited by William Causey, Cookstown and sold to Alan Ferguson, Aughnacloy.

The final 3,000gns call was made by J McCrea, Strabane for Stragnagone Darragh, a rising two year old by Roundshill Tarus and out of a Glenleary bred cow by Brampton Embark from Robert McWilliams.

A bid of 2,800gns secured Aughafad Doolittle for Strangmore Farms, Moy. Bred by Henry Sinnamon, Pomery, this 20 month old was a Burradon Talisman son and out of an Oldstone Egbert sired homebred dam.

Reserve Senior Champion, Corrick Douglas at 2,700gns

Three lots were bid to 2,700gns each. First to go was the reserve senior champion, Corrick Douglas who was within the breed’s top 15% with a Terminal Sire Index +29 and Self Replacing Index +32. Bred by Cecil McIlwaine, Newtownstewart, and purchased by D McCall, Armagh, Douglas was a 17 month old Doonally New son and out of a homebred cow going back to Moorlough Palo.

Next at 2,700gns was Pubble Edward, a 14 month old Enfield Plexus son and out of a Roundhill Rocky sired homebred cow. Bred by Andrew Gallagher, Newtownstewart, he was knocked down sold to Michael Quinn, Cookstown.

The third 2,700gns call was made by J McQuistan, Ballymoney for Mullaghbane Elton from Fred Elliott, Florencecourt. Sired by Mullaghbane Cliff, this 13 month old was out of a homebred cow by Allanfauld Superscot.

Female Champion and leader at 4,200gns Moorlough Diana

The female section was led at 4,200gns by Moorlough Diana TI +33, SRI +38, a two year old heifer by Doonally New and out of a homebred dam going back to Derrygiff Mills. Bred and exhibited by James McBride, Strabane, Diana secured the supreme female championship before selling to Sydney Rea, Ballyclare.

Drumfin Dynamite owned by B & J Buchanan, Hillsborough received the Supreme Champion and sold at 4700gns, with handler Barney O’Kane and John Henning Northern Bank sponsor of the event.

Reserve Champion was Drummeer Donald, son of Burradon Talisman,  owned by E Morrison Maguiresbridge, sold for 7800gns to  Cecil McElwaine Newtownstewart

Female Champion Ferryroad Dora owned by P & M O’Kane Bellaghy, fetched an impressive 3700gns and was sold to John Watson, Portadown pictured with handler Barney O’Kane and John Henning Agriculture Manager Northern Bank who sponsored the event.

Intermediate Champion and Reserve male Champion - Brogher Dandy ET owned and handled by T Phair Enniskillen, sold for 5000gns to S Taylor Belfast.

 

Intermediate Reserve Champion and winner of its class; Innisrush diplomat ET, owned by J Whyte, reached 2800gns and was purchased by J Kelly Limavady.

Charolais bulls met a bumper trade peaking at 7,800gns with 90% clearance and a breed centre record of 57 entries sold to average £2,962 in Dungannon on Saturday 6 March at the NI Charolais Club’s spring show and sale. 

The day’s leader at 7,800gns was the 17 month old Drumeer Donald who 24 hours earlier had been placed reserve junior champion by judge, Cyril Millar, Coleraine. A Burradon Talisman son and out of a homebred cow by Doonally New, Donald was bred and exhibited by Edwin Morrison, Maguirebridge and sold to Noel Mcllwaine, Plumbridge, Omagh.

 Next at 5,100gns was the senior champion Dartonhall Dougal, a rising two year old from John Erskine, Killylea. Sired by Corrie Alan and out of a Lyonsdemesne bred cow, the buyer was David Erskine, Crosses, Monaghan. Another entry in the money from the same exhibitor at 4,400gns was Dartonhall Dieogo, a 17 month old Ashleigh Victor son to Gerard Mullan, Plumbridge, Omagh.

Two entries shared a 5,000gns price tag. First to go was the intermediate and overall reserve supreme champion, Brogher Dandy from Trevor Phair, Enniskillen to S Taylor, Ligoniel, Belfast. This 18 month old was by Sang-d’Or and out of a homebred cow going back to Oldstone Egbert.

 Hollyvale Diego attracted the day’s second 5,000gns bid from Billy Glazebrook, Strathaven, Lanark. Bred by Ian Newell, Portadown, this 16 month old Ashleigh Victor son was out of the 4,200gns Dungannon female champion, Brogher Beverley who goes back to Moorlough Palo.

 Next at 4,700gns was the junior and overall supreme champion, Drumfin Dynamite, a 17 month old who was within the breed’s top 10% with a Terminal Index (TI) of +35 and Self Replacing Index (SRI) +38. Bred and exhibited by Basil Buchanan, Hillsborough this Malicieux son was out of Drumfin Blanche and sold to M and S Maguire, Maguiresbridge. Another Malicieux son from the same breeder, this time the 18 month old Drumfin Diablo made 3,600gns to Pat Fullen, Magherafelt.

A bid of 4,500gns secured Innisrush Dante for John McCloskey, Claudy, Derry. Bred by John Whyte and Sons, Portglenone, Dante was an 18 month old sired by the Balmoral champion, Ballindalloch Ufo and out of an Artresnahan sired cow going back to Drummeer Oscar.

 First class prize winner, Killadeas Darius made 4,100gns to Colin Montgomery, Killough, Downpatrick. Bred and exhibited by father and son team, David and Stuart Bothwell, Ballinamallard, Darius was by Dunlon Ulick and out of Brampton Embark sired cow. Three more Dunlon Ulick sons were in the money for the Bothwells. Killadeas Dermot, a rising two year old made 4,000gns to James Buchanan, while two 20 month olds each commanded 3,000gns - Killadeas Depart went to G Thompson, Kesh, and Killadeas Dean sold to K Dickson, Downpatrick.

 Mullaghbane Elvis, a 13 month old youngster secured the day’s second 4,000gns bid from H Marquess, Muckamore, Antrim. This first class prize winner bred and exhibited by Fred Elliott, Florencecourt was by Mullaghbane Carlos and out of a homebred bred by Doonally Nicefor.

 Mountjoy Dean, an 18 month old by Fury Action and out of a homebred cow by Doonally New from Desmond McAskie, Omagh made 3,800gns to D McAfee, Bushmills.

Other entries in the money included Stranagone Dick, a 17 month old Oldstone Egbert son and out of a Kye bred dam from R McWilliams, Swatragh, Derry for 3,300gns to Messrs Thompson, Tempo. James McBride, Strabane sold his Moorlough Danny, a 15 month old Fury Action son at 3,000gns to Richard Duffin, Ballymena.

 Leading female entry at 3,700gns was the section champion, Ferryroad Dora, a 21 month old Allanfauld Superscot daughter and out of a homebred dam by Roundhill Ohoh from Paul and Marie O’Kane, Bellaghy. She was knocked down sold to John Watson, Portadown.

 Two lots were bid to 3,000gns each. First to go was the reserve female champion, Drumlone Dixie, another 21 month old, this time by the 14,000gns Goldies Usher from Kenny Veitch Lisbellaw to Sydney Rea, Ballyclare. The second 3,000gns lot was Basil Buchanan’s Drumfin Delilah, an 18 month old heifer by Dovea Gin Tonic to John McKeever, Kilmore, Armagh. At 2,500gns Kenny Veitch sold Drumlone Candy, a 17 month old by Harestone Tadorne and out of a homebred dam by Brigadoon Ulsterman.

Mullaghbane Elvis son of Mullaghbane Carlos homebred by W E F Elliott Florencecourt, reached a premium of 4000gns and was sold to H Marquess Muckamore.

Charolais bulls met a strong trade peaking at 5,600gns in Dungannon on Friday 6 November at the Northern Ireland Charolais Club’s official autumn show and sale.

Sale leader at 5,600gns was the reserve champion, Brogher Domino, an 18 month old who was within the breed’s top 10% with a TI +30 and SRI +35. A Doonally New son and out of a homebred dam by Oldstone Egbert, Domino was bred and exhibited by Trevor Phair, Enniskillen, Fermanagh and sold to Alex Ferguson, Aughnacloy, Tyrone.

 Next at 5,400gns was the 17 month old Clogher Diamond, a 17 month old and one of twins by Major and out of a Clogher bred dam going back to Doonally New. Consigned by Joe Kelly of Clogher Valley Cattle Breeding Services, Clogher, Tyrone he was knocked down sold to A Loughran, Cookstown.

 Drumconnis Dallas, a 17 month old from John McGrath, Omagh, Tyrone made 5,000gns to TJ Kelly, Derry. Another entry by Doonally New, he was out of a homebred cow by Moyness Lincoln. Shortly after John McGrath offered his second entry, the July 2008 born Drumconnis David, again by Doonally New, for 4,400gns to Mark Thompson, Kesh, Fermanagh.

 Harold Stubbs, Lisnaskea offered his 16 month old, Derryharney Dreamer for 4,800gns to I Hetherington, Omagh, Tyrone. A Hillviewfarm Perfect son, he was out of homebred dam going back to Arney lines.

 A bid of 4,500gns secured the supreme champion, Dunmore Duran for Kyle McCall, Collone, Armagh. This 19 month old Doonally New son was out of a Derrygiff Mills sired cow from Derek Campton, Cookstown.

 Two more entries shared a 4,400gns price tag. First to go was Corryglass Dazzler, June 2008 born Doonally New son and out of a homebred cow going back to Brampton Embark. Bred and exhibited by Brian Phair, Enniskillen, Dazzler returned to Enniskillen with Ian Brown.

 The final lot through the ring, Gortdonaghy Dice, from Gordon Cutler, Enniskillen attracted the day’s third 4,400gns call, this time from Sam Calvin, Coleraine, Derry. This 13 month old youngster was by Cloonmore Bernard and out an Allanfauld bred cow by Allanfauld Tennessee.

 Pat Quigley, Enniskillen sold his 19 month old Burradon Talisman son, Rossavalley Dart for 4,200gns to JA McNulty, Strabane, Tyrone.

NI Charolais females meet strong demand peaking at 3,800gns

 Charolais females met a strong demand selling to a top of 3,800gns in Dungannon on Monday 5 October at the breed society’s Northern Ireland Club female show and sale.

 Sale leader at 3,800gns was Drummerheave Cynthia, a two year old Doonally New daughter and out of a Dartonhall cow. Bred by CT Rooney, she was consigned by Adrian Richardson, Maguiresbridge and the buyer was Sean Houston, Strabane.

 Two lots were bid to 3,000gns. First to go was Tonaghmore Daisy, a 21 month old Crannon Vincent daughter from Harold Crawford, Fintona to Will Short, Omagh. The second 3,000gns bid was made minutes later by Rob Todd, Banbridge for the Shaen Topper sired 19 month old, Brownhill Dolly from Martin Devine, Strabane.

 Next at 2,100gns was Tullylagan Carol, one of a string of heifers by Tullylagan Patrick, an Oldstone Egbert son, from Stewart Hammond, Cookstown. The buyer was RH Sinnamon, Pomeroy.

 Three lots shared a 2,000gns bid. Toberlane Beth, a rising three year old by Oldstone Egbert William Causey, Cookstown changed hands to M Okane, Bellaghy. Brian Phair’s (Enniskillen) two year old Doonally New sired Corryglass Candy sold to D McCall, Armargh, while the third 2,000gns bid was made by Alan Clyde, Antrim for Gortdonaghy Daisey, an 18 month old Celtic Vichy daughter from Gordon Cutler, Enniskillen. 

Averages: one cow and calf £1,827.50; 30 heifers £1,680.00.
