Charolais bulls met a bumper trade peaking at 7,800gns with 90% clearance
and a breed centre record of
57 entries sold to average £2,962
in Dungannon on Saturday 6 March at
the NI Charolais Club’s spring show and sale.
The day’s leader at
7,800gns was the 17 month old Drumeer
Donald who 24 hours earlier had been placed reserve junior champion by
judge, Cyril Millar, Coleraine. A Burradon Talisman son and out of a
homebred cow by Doonally New, Donald was bred and exhibited by Edwin
Morrison, Maguirebridge and sold to Noel Mcllwaine, Plumbridge, Omagh.
Next at 5,100gns was the
senior champion Dartonhall Dougal,
a rising two year old from John Erskine, Killylea. Sired by Corrie Alan and
out of a Lyonsdemesne bred cow, the buyer was David Erskine, Crosses,
Monaghan. Another entry in the money from the same exhibitor at 4,400gns was
Dartonhall Dieogo, a 17 month old Ashleigh Victor son to Gerard
Mullan, Plumbridge, Omagh.
Two entries shared a 5,000gns price
tag. First to go was the intermediate and overall reserve supreme champion,
Brogher Dandy from Trevor Phair,
Enniskillen to
S Taylor,
Ligoniel,
Belfast.
This 18 month old was by Sang-d’Or and out of a homebred cow going back to
Oldstone Egbert.
Hollyvale Diego attracted the day’s second 5,000gns bid
from Billy Glazebrook, Strathaven, Lanark. Bred by Ian Newell, Portadown,
this 16 month old Ashleigh Victor son was out of the 4,200gns Dungannon
female champion, Brogher Beverley who goes back to Moorlough Palo.
Next at 4,700gns was the
junior and overall supreme champion,
Drumfin Dynamite, a 17 month old who was within the breed’s top 10% with
a Terminal Index (TI) of +35 and Self Replacing Index (SRI) +38. Bred and
exhibited by Basil Buchanan, Hillsborough this Malicieux son was out of
Drumfin Blanche and sold to M and
S Maguire,
Maguiresbridge. Another Malicieux son from the same breeder, this time the
18 month old Drumfin Diablo made 3,600gns to Pat Fullen, Magherafelt.
A bid of 4,500gns secured

Bred by John Whyte and Sons, Portglenone, Dante was an 18 month old sired by
the Balmoral champion, Ballindalloch Ufo and out of an Artresnahan sired cow
going back to Drummeer Oscar.
First class prize winner,
Killadeas Darius made 4,100gns to
Colin Montgomery, Killough, Downpatrick. Bred and exhibited by father and
son team, David and Stuart Bothwell, Ballinamallard, Darius was by Dunlon
Ulick and out of Brampton Embark sired cow. Three more Dunlon Ulick sons
were in the money for
the Bothwells. Killadeas Dermot, a rising two year old
made 4,000gns to James Buchanan, while two 20 month olds each commanded
3,000gns - Killadeas Depart went
to G Thompson, Kesh, and Killadeas

Mullaghbane Elvis, a 13 month
old youngster secured the day’s second 4,000gns bid from H Marquess,
Muckamore, Antrim. This first class prize winner bred and exhibited by Fred
Elliott, Florencecourt was by Mullaghbane Carlos and out of a homebred bred
by Doonally Nicefor.
Mountjoy Dean, an 18 month old by Fury Action and out of
a homebred cow by Doonally New from Desmond McAskie, Omagh made 3,800gns to
D McAfee, Bushmills.

Drumfin Delilah, an 18 month old

Armagh. At 2,500gns Kenny Veitch sold

Northern Ireland Charolais Club’s official autumn show and sale.

Sale leader at 5,600gns
was the reserve champion, Brogher Domino, an 18 month old who was within the
breed’s top 10% with a TI +30 and SRI +35. A Doonally New son and out of a
homebred dam by Oldstone Egbert, Domino was bred and exhibited by Trevor
Phair, Enniskillen, Fermanagh and sold to Alex Ferguson, Aughnacloy, Tyrone.
Next at
5,400gns was the 17 month old Clogher Diamond, a 17 month old and one of
twins by Major and out of a Clogher bred dam going back to Doonally New.

Doonally New, for 4,400gns to Mark Thompson, Kesh, Fermanagh.
Harold
Stubbs, Lisnaskea offered his 16 month old, Derryharney Dreamer for 4,800gns
to I Hetherington, Omagh, Tyrone. A Hillviewfarm Perfect son, he was out of
homebred dam going back to Arney lines.
A bid of
4,500gns secured the supreme champion, Dunmore Duran for Kyle McCall,
Collone,
Armagh. This 19 month old Doonally New
son was out of a Derrygiff Mills sired cow from Derek Campton, Cookstown.

entries shared a 4,400gns price tag. First to go was Corryglass Dazzler,
June 2008 born Doonally New son and out of a homebred cow going back to
Brampton Embark. Bred and exhibited by Brian Phair, Enniskillen, Dazzler
returned to Enniskillen with Ian Brown.

final lot through the ring, Gortdonaghy Dice, from Gordon Cutler,
Enniskillen attracted the day’s third 4,400gns call, this time from Sam
Calvin, Coleraine,
Derry. This 13 month old youngster was by

met a strong demand selling to a top of 3,800gns in Dungannon on Monday 5
October at the breed society’s Northern Ireland Club female show and sale.
Sale leader at 3,800gns
was Drummerheave Cynthia, a two year old Doonally New daughter and out of a
Dartonhall cow. Bred by CT Rooney, she was consigned by Adrian Richardson,
Maguiresbridge and the buyer was Sean Houston, Strabane.
Two lots
were bid to 3,000gns. First to go was Tonaghmore Daisy, a 21 month old
Crannon Vincent daughter from Harold Crawford, Fintona to Will Short, Omagh.
The second 3,000gns bid was made minutes later by Rob Todd, Banbridge for
the Shaen Topper sired 19 month old, Brownhill Dolly from Martin Devine,
Strabane.
Next at
2,100gns was Tullylagan Carol, one of a string of heifers by Tullylagan
Patrick, an Oldstone Egbert son, from Stewart Hammond, Cookstown. The buyer

Altnaveigh Cracker, the junior and overall reserve
champion at 6,100gns
Charolais met a record demand underpinned by
the commercial sector in Dungannon on Saturday 7 March at the breed
society’s NI club spring show and sale where bidding peaked at 6,100gns and
a record NI breed average of £3,332.50 was achieved together with 98%
clearance, 46 out of the 47 entries found buyers.
“This fixture’s insatiable demand for bulls
was driven by the commercial sector’s confidence in Charolais’ ability to
deliver calves with superior growth rates through to traditional finishing
weights and beyond the former 400kgs barrier, and continue to grade within
the specification,” commented the society’s David Benson.
Sale
leader at 6,100gns was Atnaveigh Cracker, a 16 month old by Doonally New son
and out of a Gretnahouse sired dam from S and R Thompson, Newry,
County
Down.
Cracker who earlier on had been awarded the reserve supreme and junior male
championships, was knocked down sold to Colin Hamilton, Castlederg.
The day’s second highest call at
5,700gns was made for the supreme champion, Killadeas Colum from Stuart and
David Bothwell, Ballinamallard,

Fermanagh.
This 19 month old Dunlon Ulick son and out of a Brampton Embark daughter

breed’s top 5% on both Terminal Index, TI +34 and Self Replacing Index SRI

The day’s second 5,000gns bid
was made by Edward McErlean, Portglenone for the 16 month old Tarabe Collin,
a Royal Picasso son out of a Blakestown dam bred by B and J Buchanan,

at 4,500gns was the 17 month old Aughafad Caleb, an Allanfauld Vagabond son
from RH Sinnamon, Pomeroy to W Smyth, Limavady. Minutes later, the November
2007 born Burradon Talisman son, Moorlough Chico from J McBride, Strabane
commanded another 4,500gns bid, this time from M Wright, Lisnaskea.
The first lot in the ring, Dunmore Cracker, a rising two year
old by Goldstar Vladamir from D Campton, Cookstown attracted a 4,000gns call
from A Douglas, Limavady. Two more lots sold to 4,000gns each, with the next
in the ring Tamnamore Cody, an 18 month old Uranus son changing hands to J
Burke, Derrylin. The final 4,000gns entry, Riverview Cracker, a 17 month old
Doonally New son offered by Neville Hicks, Enniskillen sold to A Stevenson,

Friday 14 November at the NI Club’s autumn show and sale. Event leader was
Drumconnis Colossus, a 15 month old Doonally New son who earlier on had been
awarded the junior championship for John McGrath, Dromore. The buyer was
Vivian McGee, Dungannon.
A bid of 3,900gns from Hugh Lennox, Magherafelt secured
the senior male and overall supreme champion from Patterson Stewart, Omagh.
Another Doonally New son, the 19 month old Castlenure Cody was out of a
homebred cow by Roundhill Rocky.
Next at 3,800gns was the reserve junior champion,

old Crannon Vincent son and out of a Chanterhill bred dam, from Harold

the first class prize winner,
Corbally Crackerjack from M Tumelty, Downpatrick to Jonathan Adams,
Magherafelt. This March 2007 born entry was by Oldstone Egbert, and out of a
Moorlough Palo sired dam. The second 2,600gns bid went to C and K Marshall’s
(Ahoghill), Crosskeys Cashflow, a

Ireland Charolais Club’s show and sale.
Sale
leader was Sandelford Tasmin, an Oldstone Egbert daughter sold with her seven
month old heifer by the 14,000gns Goldies Usher. Bred by George Henderson,
Bushmills the buyer was Vivian McGee, Dungannon.
Another same way bred
heifer, this time Sandelford Caprice from George Henderson commanded a
1,900gns bid from Michael Deery, Eglinton.
Heading the heifer trade
at 3,200gns was John Erskine’s (Killylea) reserve champion to Brian Byrne,
Banbridge. Dartonhall Bluebell was by the Royal Highland champion, Ashleigh
Victor.
Father and son team,
Stuart and David Bothwell, Ballinamallard were among the leaders with two
heifers. First to go at 2,500gns was Killadeas Bramble, a Doonally New
daughter, to Seamus Houston, Strabane. At 2,100gns Killadeas Betty was
knocked down sold to Ian Newell, Portadown. A Clonkeefy MacAuley daughter,
she was out of a Brampton Embark sired dam.

Sale leader at 5,500gns Shoyswell Upperclass with her six month old bull, Coolnaslee Clifton
Charolais females met a solid demand from a crowded ringside, selling to a top of 5,500gns in Dungannon Farmers’ Mart on Friday 6 June when Gilbert Crawford, staged a major production sale from his Coolnaslee herd based at Maghera, County Derry.
Sale leader at 5,500gns was Shoyswell Upperclass, a 2003 born cow bred by R Barnes (Farms) and sold with her six month old bull, Coolnaslee Clifton by the herd’s current senior sire, the 14,000gns Allanfauld Superscot. The buyer was Gordon Cutler, Florencourt, Enniskillen.
Minutes later Coolnaslee Vee, a four year old Blakestown Iontach daughter offered with her October 2007 born heifer, Coolnaslee Cora by Superscot was knocked down sold for 4,400gns to Nigel and Gail Matchett, Cloncarrish, Portadown. The couple went on to make two more purchases: they paid 3,000gns for Coolnaslee Brenda, a two year old heifer by Superscot and in calf to Oscar Sydney and 2,800gns for Coolnaslee Ruby, a Derrygiff Mills daughter sold in calf to Superscot.
A second 4,400gns bid was made towards the end of the day, this time by Stuart Wilson, Derrylin for Coolnaslee Berry, a two and a half year old maiden by Superscot. Next at 4,000gns was the Superscot sired first calver, Coolnaslee Avril offered with Coolnaslee Charolotte, a December 2007 heifer calf by Coolnaslee Notable. Avril was sold in calf to Sandleford Berkamp to Arthur Magill, Carnlough.
Aiden Mulry, Roscommon forked out 3,200gns for Coolnaslee Annette, a three year old Superscot daughter and her eight month old heifer, Coolnaslee Cloud by Oscar Sydney. Following close behind at 3,000gns was the 2003 born Coolaslee Unique purchased by Noel McCrea, Cookstown for flushing purposes.
Coolnaslee Angela, a two and a half year old Beechdale Uplift daughter was knocked down sold for 2,900gns to breed newcomer, Robert Flynn, Saintfield. Frank McCaughan, Bushmills went to 2,800gns for Mullagh Tonic, a six year old by Roundhill Ohoh, bred by M McLean and offered with her two month old bull by Superscot. Leading entry secured at 2,600gns by Libby Clarke, Springfield, Lurgan was Coolnaslee Rosalie, a Balmoral first class prize winner by Derrygiff Mills and in calf to Superscot.
Heading the bull trade at 2,100gns was Coolnaslee Chaplin, a yearling Superscot son and out of Mullagh bred cow going back to Derrygiff Mills. The buyer was Brian Quin, Dungannon.
Three lots shared a 2,000gns bid. First to go was Coolnaslee Cruising, a 12 month old by Coolnaslee Abricot and out of a homebred dam going back to Superscot. He sold to David Allen, Richill, Armagh. Noel McCrea made the next 2,000gns call for Coolnaslee Commissioner, an 11 month old Superscot son. The final 2,000gns bid came from Cumbria breeder, Paul Stobart, Penrith for Coolnaslee Calvert, another July 2007 born Superscot son.
Also travelling back over the water were two cow and calf lots with R and R Weir, Cumnock, Ayr. The partners went to 1,900gns for Coolnaslee Address, a three year old by Superscot with her February born bull, Coolnaslee Donald, by Oscar Sydney. At 1,700gns the Weirs secured the Cumbrian bred Mossermains Verity, a four year old by Coolnaslee Statesman with Coolnaslee Delila at foot, her January born heifer by Superscot.
Averages: 19 cows / heifers with calves at foot £2,439.15; 44 in calf cows / maiden heifers £1,724.10; 7 bulls £1,949.85.

Killadeas Beryl was the reserve female champion at the Charolais show and sale.

A top price of 3300gns in the heifer ring was paid for Killadeas Beverly from Stuart and David Bothwell's herd at Ballinamallard.
A strong commercial strong trade for Charolais led bidding to peak at 6,000gns and achieve near clearance in Dungannon, on Monday 2 June at the Northern Ireland Charolais Club’s June show and sale.
The day’s leader at 6,000gns was the champion, Kiltybane Best, an 18 month old Maerdy Impeccable son and out of a homebred cow from S and A Bellew, Newry. The buyer was John Causey, Cookstown.
The overall reserve champion, Mullaghbane Classic was next in the price stakes at 4,700gns to commercial producer, Arthur Devlin, Ballycastle. Bred and exhibited by Fred Elliott, Florencecourt, Classic was a March 2006 born Doonally New son and out of a homebred cow going back to Beechmount Charles.
Another Doonally New son, this time Aughafad Clive was placed first in his class and commanded a bid of 3,900gns from Robert Keys at Donemana. Bred by Robert Sinnamon, Pomeroy, the 17 month old Clive was out of a homebred cow going back to Thrunton Nostradamus.
John Causey, Cookstown offered his best at 3,800gns to John Mulvenna, Larne. Toblerone Cambridge was a 12 month old youngster by Doonally Nicefor and out of a homebred Doonally New sired daughter.
Next at 3,600gns was Craemill Belfastboy, an 18 month old by the 14,000gns Allanfauld Superscot and out of a homebred cow going back to Doonally New. Bred by Noel McCrea, Coagh, Belfastboy was knocked down sold to Edward Conn, Limavady.
First class winner, Killadeas Corporal from Stuart and David Bothwell, Ballinamallard made 3,500gns to Leslie Galway, Downpatrick. A 14 month old, Corporal was by Brampton Embark and out of a Celtic bred cow.
The same father and son partnership led the female section at 3,300gns with their first class prize winner, Killadeas Beverely. Sired by Dunlon Ulick and out of a homebred dam by Brampton Embark, this 21 month old maiden sold to John McMordie, Ballygowan.
Next at 2,800gns was John Erskine’s Dartonhall Bessie, a two year old maiden by the Balmoral reserve interbreed champion, Ashleigh Victor. The buyer was Vivian Gee, Dungannon.
The supreme female award went to Harold Crawford’s (Fintona) Tonaghmore Caroline, a 16 month old maiden by Crannon Vincent, and out of a homebred dam by the 28,000gns Perth champion, Brampton Nacodar. She was knocked down sold for 2,400gns to Chris Throne, Strabane.

The supreme champion at the NI Charolais Club's show and sale, owned by
Stuart and David Bothwell and exhibited by David Bothwell who receives his
rosette from John Henning, Agricultural Manager, Northern Bank.
Charolais met a strong trade peaking at 4,900gns in Dungannon on Saturday 8 March at the Northern Ireland Club’s official spring fixture. The event attracted one of the largest ever entries and a near total clearance with 54 lots selling to average £2,468.
Sale leader at 4,900gns was Rowandale Burbon, an 18 month old Anneskeagh Sandman son and out of a homebred cow going back to the 10,000gns Harestone Nighthawk. Bred and exhibited by Darren McKay, Ballymena, this first class prize winner sold to Martin O’Kane, Dungiven.

in his class and sold for the sale's second highest price of 4,400gns.
Next to go at 4,400gns was the 20 month old Crannon Bebo from Martin Donaghy, Dungannon to James McKeagney, Upperlands. An Oldstone Egbert son, he was out of a Balnuith bred cow by Lochend Pirate.
A bid of 4,100gns secured Ballyreagh Blaze, a 22 month old second class prize winner for K Martin, Newcastle. Bred and exhibited by Stephen Sommerville, Ballygawley, Blaze was by Doonally New and out of an Egbert sired homebred cow that had bred both supreme female and male champions at the NI National Charolais Show, Fintona.
Four lots shared a 4,000gns price tag. First to go was Waterview Bruno, another Doonally New son, this time from Malcolm Surphlis, Lisnaskea to Mark Elliott, Ballinamallard. This August 2006 born entry was out of a homebred cow going back to Derrygiff Mills.

A second 19 month old Doonally New son to attract a 4,000gns price tag was Coolembley Boy out of a Blakestown Huit sired dam, from Victor Bothwell, Enniskillen to Adrian Wilson, Ballymena.

John Erskine’s (Killylea) Dartonhall Bobby, a 15 month old youngster by Doonally Nicefor and out of a Greenhilherd bred cow going back to Doonally New, made 4,000gns to William Hoey, Fivemiletown. The same exhibitor also produced the junior male and overall reserve male champion, Dartonhall Bono, a 15 month old Picador son selling for 2,500gns to E Kelly, Downpatrick.

female price of 4000gns. She was exhibited by Richard Currie who was presented with the winning rosette by John Henning, Agricultural Manager,
Northern Bank.

The final 4,000gns call was made by Billy Glazebrook, Strathaven for the reserve junior male champion, Killadeas Connor from father and son team, Stuart and David Bothwell, Ballinamallard. This January 2007 born youngster was by Dunlon Ulick and out of a homebred cow by Harestone Nighthawk.
The Bothwells were among the money with two more entries, both by Doonally New. Their Killadeas Brando, a 19 month old who earlier on had claimed the senior male, male and the overall supreme championships, was also out of a Nighthawk sired cow. He was knocked down sold for 3,700gns to James Kane, Doagh. Minutes later the Bothwells 18 month old Killadeas Benny, out of a Brampton Embark sired homebred cow made 3,600gns to Coyle Brothers, Omagh.
A second 3,600gns bid was made later in the day, this time for Drumlone Carlos, from Kenny Veitch, Lisbellow, to Gerard Henry, Knockloughrim. Carlos was a 14 month old by Oldstone Egbert and out of a Maerdy Nelson sired homebred cow.
The reserve senior male title went to Woodpark Bach, a June 2006 born Doonally New son from Will Short, Omagh selling for 2,300gn to M and S Bellew, Cullyhanna.
Females were also in strong demand with two, three year old heifer entries from John Currie, Ballymena leading the trade and scooping the silverware. Leader at 4,000gns was the female and day’s overall reserve champion, Tullygarley Anita, a Tullygarley Rollerball daughter and out of homebred dam by Bowerhouses Topper. She was sold in calf to the 25,000gns Perth champion, Goldies Unbeatable. The buyer was D Herron, Broughshane.
A bid of 3,500gns secured Tullygarley Annette for William Harron, Glenavy. This Goldies Unbeatable daughter was out of a homebred cow by Derrygiff Mills and awarded the reserve female title.
