The previous day, Friday, the bulls will be
judged by Scottish Charolais breeder, Bob Adam of the renowned Newhouse
herd, Glamis, Angus who says he will be looking for bulls with size, shape
and style. “They’re the type of animals we focus on breeding within our 40
cow herd, and they’re the type that are in demand by pedigree and commercial
producers alike,” he says.
That has proved to be the case for the Adam
family, father, Drew and Bob’s wife, Kay who are frequently found among the
top Perth Charolais averages, collecting strings of tickets and taking home
the silverware. They have sold to 22,000gns twice, including in February for
the overall supreme and intermediate champion, Newhouse Dingdong. “Charolais was introduced to Newhouse 37 years ago by my father, and since then it has faced competition from 11 different cattle breeds, however from an early stage he was confident that it had a major role to play as a business venture,” explains Bob who will be making his debut judging at a major official society fixture. “That real confidence continues. We believe that the future for Charolais is very bright simply because commercial men are finding that Charolais cross cattle can be finished to 400kg carcase weight and without too much fat cover, more quickly and efficiently than any other crosses. Charolais crosses are also increasingly favoured for their quiet temperament. Charolais is the indisputable beef terminal sire for the future.” |
