Carlisle Charolais sell to 5,500gns twice

Supreme Male Champion, Gretnahouse Drysky sold for 5,000gns

Overall Reserve Male Champion, Alsnow Dictactor at 5,500gns

Cracker Female Champion, Edenhurst Caroline made 5,000gns

Charolais bulls were in demand selling to 5,500gns twice in Carlisle on Friday 9 October at the breed society’s rescheduled official autumn show and sale which also featured the annual consignment of Cracker females. 

First lot to come under the hammer sold at 5,500gns was Mowbraypark Derby, a 20 month old first class prize winner within the breed’s top 10% with a Terminal Index of +30. Bred by Mike and Margaret Atkinson, Kirkby Malzeard, Ripon, Derby was sired by their noted Mowbraypark Paramount and out of a Bleasdale bred dam going back to Shraden Talisman. The buyers were IM and CLC White, Riddlington, Rutland.

 Next at 5,500gns was Alsnow Dictator TI +31, SRI +41, the day’s reserve overall male champion from Alan Lawson and Son, Hallington, Newcastle. Sired by Blelack Roger and out of a homebred dam by Burradon Talisman, sire of the 55,000gns Thrunton Voldemort, the 18 month old sold to W and N Milne, Strathdon, Aberdeen.

 Gretnahouse Drysky, a 19 month old from Alasdair Houston, Gretna Green was awarded the supreme male title and bid to 5,000gns by PM Usher, Gatehouse of Fleet. A Gretnahouse Ultimate son, Drysky was out of a Mortimers bred cow going back to Gretnahouse Napolean. Later in the day, the same vendor was among the top female entries when he offered Gretnahouse Caresse TI +36, SRI +43, a two year old maiden by Doonally New at 3,700gns to DG and CL Noton, Ashby cum Fenby, Grimsby.

 Three more lots were bid to 5,000gns each. First to go was Wesley Drake, an 18 month old from Wesley Estates, Markfield, Leicester to TN Lightfoot, Stoke Climsland, Callington. The second prize winning Drake was by the 20,000gns Perth champion, Thrunton Trojan and out of a homebred cow going back to Maerdy Rock.

Hallbankgate Dragon made 5,000gns

 James Herdman, Edlingham Newton, Alnwick secured the next lot at 5,000gns, the May 2008 born Hallbankgate Dragon TI +28, SRI +33 from father and son team, Tom and Ian Bell, Hallbankgate, Brampton. An Edenhurst Pioneer son, he was out of a homebred dam by Brampton Imperial.

Piatroon Debonair made 5,000gns

 The fourth 5,000gns call was made by Derek and Gillian Young, Waverton, Wigton, for the 16 month old Piatroon Debonair bred by Harold Forster and Sons, Humshaugh, Hexham. Another Burradon Talisman son, he was out of a Thrunton bred dam going back to the 25,000gns Perth champion, Mowbraypark Orlando.

Selling at 4,500gns, Chesham Daniel

 Minutes before, Ben Harman’s (Chesham, Buckingham) Chesham Daniel was knocked down sold for 4,500gns to P Oag, Wick, Caithness. This 16 month old first class winner was by the 30,000gns Thrunton Voltage and out of a homebred dam going back to Moynton Legrand.

 Heading the Cracker female trade at 5,000gns was the day’s female champion, Edenhurst Caroline from Peter Vasey, Wetheral, Carlisle to T Jones and Son, Dryslwyn, Carmarthen. This two year old heifer scanned in calf Edenhurst Cognac was by Burradon Talisman and out of a homebred cow going back to Killadeas Jack.

 The same father and son buyers paid 4,100gns for Thrunton Bronte, a three year old by Burraradon Talisman sold with her April born heifer, Thrunton Esla, by the 22,000gns Newhouse Bigal. The cow and calf pair was one of four entries consigned by the Campbell family, Ian, John and their father, Colin, Thrunton, Alnwick whose trade was headed at 4,600gns by Thrunton Bluebelle, a three year old by Solwayfirth Union sold with her nine month old heifer, Thrunton Eve to James and Vanessa Webb, Billesdon, Leicester.

Westcarse Dynasty, Reserve Cracker Female Champion at 4,200gns

 The overall reserve Cracker place went to Westcarse Dynasty, a January 2008 born maiden from John Christie, Stirling. Sired by Mortimers Tebay and out of a homebred dam, she made 4,200gns to Bob Leggat, New Pitsligo, Fraserburgh.

 Other leading entries at 4,000gns included Gaer Vickey, a five year old bred by TE Jones and offered by Cumbrian breeder, Jim Wrigley, St Bees who was staging his retirement sale. A Gaer Protocol daughter she was sold with her January born bull, Bega Everest by Fairway Bandtogether. The buyer was A Thomson, Castle Douglas.

 Solid demand for quality Charolais bulls from commercial suckled calf producers underpinned trade throughout at the breed society’s official spring sale in Carlisle on Saturday 9 May. Bidding peaked at 28,000gns, seven entries commanded 10,000gns or more, 140 lots sold to average £4,798, up £1,098 on the year and 82% clearance was achieved.

 “Buyers travelling from as far a field as Orkney to Devon were at the packed ringside keen for a slice of the action and take home a bull which they were confident would go on to leave high performing calves that would continue to leave a premium not only for themselves but also the finisher,” said British Charolais Cattle Society chairman, Iain Millar. “Bulls with size and scale, ease of calving and that were ready for work were among their real priorities.”

 Sale leader at 28,000gns was the two year old senior champion, Goldie Champion who was among the first lots through the ring. Bred and exhibited by Hamish Goldie, Ruthwell, Dumfries, Champion was by the 34,000gns Perth supremo, Goldies Uppermost, out of a Kinclune cow by Killadeas Legend and accompanied by Breedplan performance data within the breed’s top 1%, TI +46 and SRI +50. He went to join the Haltcliffe pedigree Charolais herd owned by the Ridley family, Matt, his son Craig and grandson Matthew, Hesket Newmarket, Wigton.

 Two more lots were among the money from the same breeder and both were 18 month olds by Goldies Vicechancellor, one of Uppermost’s brothers. Goldies Cassanover, TI +29, SRI +34 was out of a homebred dam by the 20,000gns Blelack Rustic and made 6,500gns to Wissington Charolais, Nayland, Colchester. Goldies Chief TI +40, SRI +47, who was out of a homebred dam going back to Dingle Hofmeister made 5,000gns to A Lindsay, Auchencairn, Castle Douglas.

 Balthayock Diplomat TI +43, SRI +50 commanded the second highest call of 22,000gns, a record for David Walter in more than 35 years of breeding pedigree Charolais at Balthayock, Perth. A 15 month old, second prize class winner, Diplomat was sired by the 26,000gns Balbithan Vespasian and out of a Dingle Hofmeister sired homebred dam. He returned to Perthshire with Bill Bruce, Balmyle, Meigle.

 Mr Bruce recouped some of his investment when minutes before he offered Balmyle Dingle TI +43, SRI +49 at 8,000gns to Wesley Estates, Markfield, Leicester. This 15 month old was by Hofmeister and out of a homebred cow by the 31,000gns Pedr Thumper.

 Three more Vespasian sons from Major Walter came under the hammer sold. A bid of 6,000gns secured Balthayock Dominion TI +36, SRI +42 for J Nelson, Parton, Castle Douglas, while Dominion’s 14 month old twin, Balthayock Dominic TI +38, SRI +43 made 5,000gns to Mervyn and Christine Parker, Duxford, Cambridge. The third entry, the 13 month old Balthayock Debonair TI +40, SRI +47 went for 5,000gns to Dalswinton Farms, Auldgirth, Dumfries.

 Father and son team, Bob and Drew Adam, Glamis, Forfar offered their sole entry at 18,000gns to neighbouring breeders, P Cooper and Son, Kincaldrum, Forfar. The January 2008 born Newhouse Debonair TI +30, SRI + 35, was by the 14,000gns Sackville Adonis and out of homebred dame by Blelack Rustic.

 At 16,000gns, Maerdy Cecil TI +27, SRI +35 headed a string of 10 entries sold from Flintshire vet, Esmor Evans, Mold. This 17 month old was out of a homebred cow by Maerdy Grimaldi and had been awarded the reserve intermediate championship. Cecil who was knocked down sold to the Campbell family, Ian and John and father, Colin, of Thrunton, Alnwick was one of twins and by their 55,000gns Perth supremo, Thrunton Voldemort.

 The Campbells more than recouped their spend selling 11 lots in total including their highest, the reserve senior champion, Thrunton Conqueror TI +20, SRI +31 for 9,000gns to J and W Kellas, Dufftown, Aberdeen. This 19 month old was by Burradon Talisman, sire of Voldemort, and out of a homebred dam going back to Mowbraypark Orlando. Next at 6,500gns was their 20 month old Thrunton Casanova, a Solwayfirth Union son and out of an Orlando bred dam. The buyer was Auchenleck Estates, Killearn, Stirling. 

 The Campbells also led the female trade with two Talisman sired cows, each with their eight month old heifer calves at foot.  First at 5,000gns was Thrunton Apricot, a four year old out of a Blelack Jaguar sired homebred dam and her heifer, Thrunton Dorothy by Solwayfirth Union, to RL Hall, Wintringham, Malton. At 4,500gns RW Wyllie, Cumnock, Ayr secured Thrunton Bouquet with her heifer, Thrunton Denise by the 22,000gns Newhouse Bigal.

 Esmor Evans offered the day’s next two highest lots. Maerdy Deiniol TI +37, SRI +43, a 16 month old, first class prize winner by Vald’or-Ra and out of a Maerdy Paddy sired homebred dam was bid to 15,000gns by Ronnie Baillie, Deerness, Orkney.

 Earlier on Mr Baillie sold his 18 month old Baillieston Charles TI +28, SRI +33 for 7,000gns to Glen Park Farms, Balerno, Midlothain. A second prize class winner, Charles was a Hofmeister son and out of a cow by his homebred Baillieston Magic.  

 At 11,000gns Maerdy Dublin TI +30, SRI +34 sold in a split bid to father and son team, Neil and Graeme Massie, Dinnet, Aboyne and Michael Massie, Auchnagatt, Ellon. Another first class prize winner, the 15 month old Dublin was by Voldemort and out of a homebred cow by Maerdy Poultice.

 A further Vald’or-Ra son, the 21 month old Maerdy Calcium TI +32, SRI +36 and out of a homebred cow by Maerdy Grimaldi made 7,000gns to the event judge, Liam Muir, Harray, Orkney. At 6,000gns, John Wight and Sons, Midlock, Crawford, Biggar secured Maerdy Domino TI +38, SRI +39, a 15 month old youngster by Maerdy Padirac and out of a homebred cow going back to Maerdy Grimaldi.

 Another bull traveling over the water to Orkney, this time with D and M Campbell, Occumster, Lybster for 10,000gns was Harviestoun Casino TI +27, SRI +32, an 18 month old from Lucy Poett, House of Mailer, Perth. This first class prize winner was by Ravensworth Unwin and out of a homebred cow by Blelack Navigator. A bid of 7,000gns from JC Hobday and Son, Hawick secured another Unwin sired entry from Mrs Poett, this one was the 18 month old Harviestoun Chick TI +36, SRI +42.  

 The day’s second 9,000gns bid was made by WD Adams and Son, Wigtown, Newton Stewart for Corrie Crackpot TI +34, SRI +37. Bred by Duncan MacGregor, Kilsyth, Glasgow, this rising two year old who was placed second in his class, was by Dingle Hofmeister and out of a homebred cow by Allanfauld Flintlock.

 Cumbria breeder, Peter Vasey, Wetheral, Carlisle collected the reserve junior championship with his 14 month old youngster, Edenhurst Dynamo TI +34, SRI +39 which he later offered for 8,200gns to MR McCornick, Kirkcowan, Newtown Stewart. A Doonally New son, he was out of a homebred cow going back to Dingle Hofmeister. Mr Vasey also sold the last catalogued entry and highest priced maiden, the rising one year old heifer, Edenhurst Delice at 2,700gns to KM and H McKay, Cowon Bridge, Dingwall. Delice was a Burradon Talisman daughter and her homebred dam went back to Killadeas Jack.

 The day’s second 8,000gns call secured the rising two year Marwood Constantine for WJ Irving, Dalbeattie, Kirkcudbright. Bred by the Blyth family, Roy, Jean, Neil and Kirsty, of Elwick, Hartlepool, Constantine was by Allanfauld Vagabond and out of a homebred bred cow by the 15,000gns Perth intermediate champion. Inverlochy Passport.  

The junior, overall male and reserve supreme champion was bred and exhibited by JM Cant and Partners, Arbirlot, Arbroath. Their Panmure Denzel was a 16 month old by Balbithan Volker and out of a Moyness Royal sired homebred cow. He was knocked down sold for 7,500gns to JE Woodman, Chesters, Haltwhistle.

 Brampton Crossbow TI +25, SRI +29 from Yorkshire breeder, Billy Turner, Skelton on Ure, Ripon secured a 7,200gns bid from JW Vevers, Waterbeck, Lockerbie. This 17 month old was by Coolnaslee Austin was out of a Bassett Pearlyking sired homebred cow.

 Seven lots shared a 7,000gns price tag including the event’s intermediate, overall male and supreme champion, Gwenog Chisum TI +23, SRI +31, a 17 month old from father and son team, John and Peter Howells who once again made a highly worthwhile 600 mile round trip from Llanwenog, Llanybydder, Ceredigion. Sired by the 16,000gns Blelack Tycoon, Chisum was out of a Midas bred cow by Killadeas Jack. He continued his journey north with Caithness Livestock, Thurso.

 John Green, Lilliesleaf, Melrose offered his sole entry at 7,000gns to Leys Castle Farm, Leys Castle Inverness. Greenall Celebrity was a two year old Allanfauld Superscot son and out of a homebred dam going back to Derrygiff Mills.

 Glenleary Cayman, the only entry to travel over the water from Northern Ireland was bid to 7,000gns by JS Dunn and Partners, Heriot, Midlothian. This 20 month old first class winner bred by Cyril and Martin Millar, Coleraine, Derry, was by Doonally New son and out of Darshams bred cow by Drumlone Max.

 Plasbela Cai TI +30, SRI +37, an 18 month old Derryharney Outstanding son from T and GW Roberts, Abergele, Conwy commanded a 6,800gns price tag from E and J Holliday, Westward, Wigton. Minutes later, Mortimers Columbo made 6,500gns to G Davies and Partners, Askirk, Selkirk. Columbo, who has headed his class was a Ravensworth Alder son, out of a Gretnahouse Napolean sired homebred cow and bred and exhibited by Mortimers Farm, Fair Oak, Eastleigh.

 Three more lots changed hands for 6,000gns. The Yorkshire bred Ellerton Crockett TI +34, SRI +36, a 19 month old by the 25,000gns Goldies Unbeatable, from Andrew Brown, Foggathorpe, Selby sold to G Raeburn, East Kilbride. Next at 6,000gns was the November 2007 born Sportmans Crest TI +28, SRI +33, a 16 month old by the 10,000gns Balbithan Unicorn and out of a homebred cow by Cockerington Baron from Boden and Davies, Mellor, Stockport to Southwick Farm, Southwick, Dumfries. Alasdair Houston, Gretna offered his highest at 6,000gns to J Murray, Cumnock, Ayr. Gretnahouse Director TI+23, SRI +28 was a 16 month old Gretnahouse Ultimate son and out of a homebred cow by Moncur General.

Solid trade for Carlisle Charolais

Bulls to 4,500gns; Cracker females top at 4,400gns

Tom Cox sold 6 lots to average £2,677.50 to a top price of 4,500gns for Bleaklow Solitaire and her heifer calf Bleaklow Dawn

 Charolais bulls led the trade at 4,500gns in Carlisle on Friday 21 November at the breed society’s autumn show and sale which also featured the annual consignment of Cracker females.

 Sale topper at 4,500gns was the day’s reserve male champion, Esgob Cai, a 17 month old who was within the breed’s top 15% with a Self Replacing Index of 32. Bred and exhibited by Gareth Jones, Cwmtirmynach, Bala, Cai was by the 18,000gns Thrunton Virginian, paternal brother to Thrunton Voldemort who sold the same day in Perth for 55,000gns. Cai was knocked down sold to VS Allgood, Nunwick, Hexham.

 Next in the bull section at 3,800gns was Moelfre Commando, a 19 month old second class prize winner by Gretnahouse Vigorous and out of a Thrunton bred cow by Mortimers Politician. Bred and exhibited by Kevin Thomas, who was making a 600 mile round trip from Newcastle Emlyn, Commando continued to travel north with his buyers, P and M Watson, Durris, Kincardine, Aberdeenshire.

 Two more Vigorous sons from Kevin Thomas were knocked down sold at 2,500gns each to the same buyer, Westcott Farms, Brentor, Tavistock. First was the April 2007 born Moelfre Comet who was out of a Mowbraypark bred cow by Mowbraypark Paramount. Later in the day, Westcott Farms secured Moelfre Colorado, a June 2007 born entry out of a homebred Moelfre cow going back to Allanfauld and Moyness lines.

 Vanessa Vasey, Wetheral, Carlisle offered Border Centurian at 3,500gns to MR McCornick, Kirkcowan, Newton Stewart. Centurian was a 17 month old by Edenhurst Titus, while his homebred dam went back to Oldstone Egbert.

 Another Welsh bred bull making a successful journey from Wales to Carlisle was the second class prize winner, Hendy Celt, an April 2007 born Tullygarley Rollerball son and out of a homebred dam by Doonally New. Bred and exhibited by John and Diane Rees, Llangurig, Llanidloes, he was purchased for 3,000gns by HG Graham, Chapelknowe, Canonbie.

 A bid of 2,800gns secured Bleasdale Colorado for JB Paterson, Amisfield, Dumfries. Another 19 month, Colorado was by a Doonally New, he was offered by the Kelsall and Marsden partnership, Goosnargh, Preston.

 Three more lots were bid to 2,500gns a piece. First to go was the 21 month old Caylers Columbus, a first class prize winner by the 15,000gns Burradon Talisman, sire of the 55,000gns  Thrunton Voldemort and out of a homebred cow going back to Killadeas Lloyd from the Barker family, Nuthampstead, Royston to WJF Vance, Whithorn, Newton Stewart.

 Next at 2,500gns was Hackleton Chieftain, another 21 month old this time by Kilcullen Ted and out of a homebred cow going back to Lendor lines. Bred by Hackleton Farms, Hackleton, Northampton, the buyers were IHW and JE Bothwell, Patna, Ayr. 

Shraden Concorde, a May 2007 born entry from Roger Everall, Shrawardine, Shrewsbury was secured for 2,500gns by S and E Mair, Waterbeck, Lockerbie. Sired by the 10,000gns Inverlochy Topsire, Concorde was out of a homebred dam going back to Balthayock Matthew.

 Heading the Cracker section at 4,400gns was the reserve female champion Mowbraypark Crystal who was within the breed’s top 15% with a Self Replacing Index of 35. Bred and exhibited by Mike and Margaret Atkinson, Kirkby Malzeard, Ripon, this 21 month old maiden was by Inverlochy Topsire and out of a homebred cow by Mowbraypark Paramount. The buyer was FE Hoad, High Blantyre, Lanark.

 At 3,500gns, the Boden and Davies partnership, Mellor, Stockport secured Trefonnen Caroline, a March 2007 born Burradon Talisman daughter and out of a homebred cow from Mr and Mrs Roy Hughes, Trefonen, Oswestry.

 The fixture featured a collective sale of females which was topped by a couple of cow and calf pairs from Tom Cox, Great Longstone, Bakewell. First at 4,500gns to CH McDowell, Billesdon, Leicester was Bleaklow Solitaire, a seven year old by Baggrave Minstrel sold with one of her March born twin heifers at foot, Bleaklow Dawn by Allanfauld Superscot.

 A bid of 3,500gns secured the second outfit from Tom Cox for A and G Wood and Scott, Forest-in-Teesdale, Barnard Castle. Bleaklow Roche was an eight year old Balthayock Nougat daughter sold with her March born bull calf, Blealow Dambuster, by Superscot.

 Andrew Sellick, Williton, Taunton went to 3,300gns for Robbie and Kathleen Jackson’s (Seaville, Silloth) Seaville Vanity, a four year old by the 12,000gns reserve Perth champion Mowbraypark Northend sold with her rising 12 month old bull, Seaville Countess by Burradon Talisman.

 Averages: 22 bulls £2,488.98; six Cracker heifers £2,407.08; 26 collective females £2,671.70

Commercial producers fuelled a solid demand for Charolais in Carlisle on Saturday 10 May at the breed society’s official late spring fixture. Bidding peaked at 10,000gns and 115 entries came under the hammer sold to average £3,700, up £259 on the year, including 22 lots at 5,000gns or more.

Sale leader at 10,000gns was the day’s reserve senior champion, Thrunton Bravado, a 19 month old bred and exhibited by the Campbell family, Ian, John and their father, Colin, Thrunton, Alnwick. Sired by Burradon Talisman, sire of the 55,000gns Perth intermediate champion, Thrunton Voldemort, Bravado was out of a hombred dam going back to Mortimers Politician and he had a 400 day weight EBV within the breed’s top 1% of +64. The buyer was Mrs J Robinson, Rochford, Tenbury Wells.

The Campbells sold a string of eight bulls to average £5,328 with their next highest lot, Thrunton Bombay at 7,500gns. This December 2006 born entry who was one of twins and stood first in his class, was by the 11,000gns Solwayfirth Union and out of a homebred cow by the 25,000gns Perth supremo, Mowbraypark Orlando. Accompanied by 400 day weight and calving ease EBVs within the breed’s top 5%, he sold to commercial producers, JE Woodman and Sons, Great Chesters, Haltwhistle. Another Union son, this time the 18 month old Thrunton Buccaneer attracted a 6,000gns price tag from JG Milburn and Sons, Hexham.

The day’s second highest call of 9,500gns was made for the intermediate and overall supreme champion, Maerdy Bermuda, a 17 month old with an eye muscle area EBV within the breed’s top 5% at 4.4. A Maerdy Padirac son and out of a homebred Rosanna sired dam, he was bred and exhibited by Flintshire based vet, Esmor Evans, Mold and knocked down sold to Greystoke Castle Farms, Greystoke, Penrith to run with one of Cumbria’s largest suckler herds amounting to 280 cows.

Two entries shared an 8,500gns bid. First to go was Hallbankgate Brazil, a 17 month old Alwent Vougeot son and out of homebred cow going back to Edenhurst Pioneer from father and son team, Tom and Ian Bell, Hallbankgate, Brampton. Brazil was accompanied by a Terminal Index (TI) within the breed’s top 10% at TI 30, and sold to J and W Wilson, Creetown, Newton Stewart.

The Bells had one of their best runs in Carlisle with a total of six entries clearing to average just over the £5,000 mark. Next at 6,000gns was 16 month old youngster, Hallbankgate Champion TI 29 to AD Garfield and Sons, Llangynwyd, Bridgend. Champion was by the 10,000gns Elrick Uranium and out of a homebred cow, again by Pioneer.

Kevin Thomas, Newcastle Emlyn made another worthwhile 600 mile round trip to Carlisle, this time taking the reserve junior male champion with the 17 month old Moelfre Champion who later attracted the second 8,500gns call. Sired by Gretnahouse Vigorous and out of a homebred dam going back to Killadeas Jack, he returned to Wales with JS Abel, Cwmbelan, Llanidloes.

The senior male championship was awarded to Kelton Bonaparte, a 19 month old by Ugie Upperhand and out of a homebred dam by Balmyle Magnate. Bred and exhibited by David Grant, manager to Gelston Castle Farms, Boreland of Kelton, Castle Douglas, he attracted the day’s first 8,000gns bid from John Jeffrey, Kersknowe, Kelso.

The second 8,000gns price tag went to the 17 month old Balmyle Champagne TI30 from Bill Brue, Meigle, Perth. Sired by the 10,000gn Maerdy Othello and out of a homebred dam by Dingle Hohmeister, he was knocked down sold to JA Gracie and Sons, Canonbie, Dumfries.

Leading entry from Major David Walter, Perth at 7,000gns was Balthayock Baird TI33, who sold jointly to Neil and Graeme Massie, Dinnet, Aboyne and AH Fisher, Portpatrick, Stranraer. Baird was by Balthayock Valentine, a Maerdy Othello son, and out of a Barbican Lancer sired homebred dam.

Three more entries shared a 7,000gns price tag. Mowbraypark Bradford TI24, an 18 month old Mowbraypark Paramount son and one of twins from Mike and Margaret Atkinson, Kirkby Malzeard, Ripon went to AM and PM Bowman and Son, Kirkoswald, Penith.

Bob Milne, Elgin, offered his Elgin Clansman for 7,000gns to MPB Ashton, Cefin Coch, Welshpool. The January 2007 born Clansman TI25, was a Gower Versace son and out of an Allanfauld bred dam by Mortimers Roselier.

The day’s fourth 7,000gns call went to the 14 month old youngster and first class prizewinner, Chunal Caledonian TI32, from M McGahan, Glossop, Derby. A Doonally New son, and out of a Dingle Hofmeister homebred dam, the buyers were A and T Wilson, Whauphill, Newton Stewart.

Next at 6,500gns was WL Hyslop and Son’s (Castle Douglas), Logan Bandit, an 18 month old whose paternal and maternal genetics went back to Logan Sparticus. He return to south west Scotland with W and M Barbour, New Abbey, Dumfries.

Burradon Bruiser TI31, an October 2006 born Doonally New son from Messrs Curry. Thropton Morpeth commanded a 6,200gns bid from Messrs Bound, Tylwch, Llanidloes.
