BCCS chairman,
Steven Nesbitt receives the £25,000 donation from Welsh Charolais Region
chairman, Welsh Region Charolais breeders have co-ordinated raising £25,000 towards the British Charolais Cattle Society’s new purpose built Pavilion on the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s showground, Llanelwedd, Builth Wells. The facility represents the first Continental breed society to have a permanent presence on the showground, it was wholly funded by the society and officially opened at the Royal Welsh Show in July. The £25,000 funding which was raised through the Buy-a-Brick initiative has been supported by more than 120 Charolais breeders together with industry representatives, including from the animal health and feed sectors and auctioneers. The sum is going towards the Pavilion’s furnishings and fittings. “The Welsh Charolais Region realised that the new facility would not only be of benefit to ourselves, but breeders and industry representatives UK-wide, so we agreed to make a significant contribution to the cost,” explained its chairman, Bob Roberts. “We decided to launch Buy-a-Brick and co-ordinate the initiative. Support has been unprecedented with more than half the total sum raised from the gold, silver and bronze bricks on offer, and we are now looking forward to opening up the facility throughout the year.”
