November 7, 2016 Dungannon Charolais sell to 5,100gns

Charolais cattle sold to a top price of 5,100gns at the Northern Ireland Charolais Club sale held in Dungannon on Friday 4th November. There were 27 bulls sold to an average of £3,290 which was an increase of £362 on the year with five more sold.

Maghera breeder Gilbert Crawford came up with the goods bagging the top prices of the day and reserve championships in the senior and junior bull sections to boot. Top of the lots at 5,100gns was the reserve junior male champion Coolnaslee Lyle. Sired by the Highland Show interbreed junior beef champion Goldstar Hugo2 and out of the homebred dam Coolnaslee Evadne going back to the Balmoral Show beef interbreed bull performance award winner Sandelford Bergkamp, this 16 month old caught the eye of Messrs J McKeagney, Maghera, Co Derry.

Also from the same home was the reserve supreme and reserve senior male champion Coolnaslee Lamarr. Another 16 month old sired by Goldstar Hugo2 and out of the homebred Coolnaslee Dancer who is sired by the 14,000gns Allanfauld Superscot, this time purchased by Dermot McCullagh who paid 4,100gns to take him home to Swatragh, Co Derry.

Two further lots made the same price of 4,100gns; the first was a July 2015-born lad from Jeremy Paynter, Hockley, Co Armagh. Drumilly Legend, a son of the popular AI sire Goldies Eddy and homebred dam Drumilly Favourite who goes back to Oldstone Egbert was knocked down to RD Armstrong, Lisburn, Co Antrim who moments later went on to purchase the red ticket winning Burnside Lightning for 3,800gns. Lightning is another 15 month old this time sired by the 9,000gns Balmoral supreme champion Goldies Carnival and exhibited by Brian and William McAllister, Kells, Co Antrim.

The McAllister’s went on to sell the September 2015-born Burnside Lawman. The 16,000gns Stirling junior champion and Caithness Show supreme champion Clyth Diplomat is the sire of this one and he took the fancy of Doris Robb, Castlederg, Co Tyrone who paid 3,600gns to take him home.

Matching the 4,100gns price tag was an entry from Stuart and David Bothwell, Ballina Mallard, Co Fermanagh. The 14 month old Killadeas Liam heads to Co Down to work at Castlewellan for Rowland Wilson and the breeding here includes; sire Blelack Digger and the 16,000gns Stirling supreme champion Blackford Dynamite daughter Killadeas Holly.

Just behind on 3,900gns was and entry from Sean McGovern, Clogher, Co Tyrone. Ratoary Logan a June 2015-born son of the Clogher Show reserve intermediate champion bull Ratoary Honkydory was tapped out as Junior Male Champion earlier in the day and snapped up by James Rice, Armagh, Co Armagh.

Mr McGovern later went on to secure 3,500gns for the 15 month old yellow ticket winner Ratoary Lancer and the man behind the money on this 13,000gns Conval Frank son was S Dobbin, Ballycastle, Co Antrim.

Three bulls were knocked down at 3,700gns a piece, with the first coming from Jack Smyth, Magheracolton, Co Tyrone. The 19 month old supreme and senior male champion Bessiebell Luigi was purchased by R McIlvar, Garvagh, Co Derry and the breeding here includes popular AI bull Alwent Goldbar and the Doonally New sired dam Aghyoule Finoula. Matching the 3,700gns price tag was the May 2015-born Ballyoak Lazard consigned by Stephen and Angela McKenna, Clogher, Co Tyrone. This yellow ticket winner is sired by the 22,000gns Newhouse Bigal and out of the homebred dam Ballyoak Fresh going back to the 14,000gns Allanfauld Superscot and was knocked down to Brian Halliday, Rathfriland, Co Down.

Another to sell at 3,700gns was Moorlough Lager. The July 2015-born Allanfauld Vagabond son Lager who stood second in his class was purchased by John Burke, Derrylin, Co Fermanagh and exhibited by James McBride, Strabane, Co Tyrone.

An entry from Douglas Morrow, Coleraine, Co Derry was next to sell in a 3,500gns deal to Donald Kane, Ballymena, Co Antrim which was the class winning Ramrad Laurence an 18 month old son of the 13,000gns Royal Highland Show class winner Allanfauld Hustler.

Leading the bids for the females at 3,000gns was the female champion Drumlone Lulu. Coming from Kenneth Veitch, Lisbellaw, Co Fermanagh and selling to the up and coming young breeder Andrew Dunne from Kinawley, Co Fermanagh. The parents of this Feburary 2015-born lass are dam Drumlone Gwen by Maerdy Grimaldi and sire Highland Show reserve junior bull champion Elgin Davinci.

Following on and the first of two to sell at 2,500gns was the reserve female champion Moorlough Joanna, another entry from James McBride. This September 2014-born daughter of Liscally ETI and Moorlough Annie who goes back to the 10,000gns Portadown supreme champion Moorlough Palo was purchased by Liam Ruddy, Strabane, Co Tyrone.

Matching the 2,500gns price was a heifer from Stuart and David Bothwell. Herbert Kerr, Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh took home Killadeas Joan a June 2014-born daughter of the 16,000gns Blackford Dynamite.

The sale was rounded off with the dispersal of the Liscurry herd on behalf of Alistair, Trevor and William Hume, Strabane, Co Tyrone.

The favourite in this section and commanding a bid of 3,400gns from Richard Bailie, Newtownhamilton, Co Down was the Blelack Digger daughter Liscurry Gemini and her 6 month old twin bull calves Liscurry Masterstroke and Liscurry Michelangelo sired by Liscurry Hercules.

Also in the money at 2,700gns was the mother and son pair Liscurry Goldie by Blelack Digger and the July-born Liscurry Magnificient who is also sired by Liscurry Hercules purchased by Lewis McClinton, Glenarm, Co Antrim.
